This was out in Honolulu a couple of months ago, I just forget to actually post it… sigh…
Anyhoo, one of our carriers pulled in and the air wing flew off, landing at Hickham (which shares runways with Honolulu International)…
These guys had just landed on the ‘short’ runway (A helluva lot longer than the 425 feet on a carrier) and were taxiing over to park at Hickam, the United bird had just started taxiing to takeoff, everybody came to a halt…
Now normally airliners fight to get immediate taxi clearance, and don’t want to wait at all…
But in this case…. Not so much… No, no, you to right ahead, I’ll wait… 🙂
And in the ‘little things’ category…
I’ve been staying at the Hilton Hawaiian Village for now going on 30 years, and never noticed the end caps on the roof of the central shopping pavilion… I guess I’d never been in the ‘right’ room to view them…
But it’s a pretty neat end cap, not a gargoyle, but it does spit water when it rains!!!
Sigh… One of these days I’ve got to learn to go back and check for draft posts…
But in this case…. Not so much… No, no, you to right ahead, I’ll wait… 🙂
I hear Aretha in my head… “R-E-S-P-E-C-T…” :-0
We noticed those endcaps last November, only because we arrived in the midst of a tropical downpour. (What other kind would there be in Hawaii, Paul? Duh.)
Re: the United flight waiting for the fighters … yep. Not a good idea to mess with the guy who can turn you into a debris field. 🙂
Buck- LOL, yep! Funny thing, a 15 landed in the same period, and he used the LONG runway…
Rev- LOL, yeah, it DOES pour down out there! And good point!
Great Pictures
“I’ve been staying at the Hilton Hawaiian Village for now going on 30 years…”
I think the only other person on the planet that can say that is Don Ho.
Rick- Thanks!
Mrs.C- LOL… Trust me ‘I’ am NOT the only one…
No tailhook?
Nah, USAF mandates longest runway… 🙂 it’s got a little dinky 1 time use one…
The boys and girls who fly the skies that make it safe for the heavies to fly deserve the respect and should go first.
What about staying at the Hale Koa?
Loved the pictures of the Rhinos in Hawaii. Those guys are from CAG-2 off the Reagan, my daughter’s air wing. F/A-18Es of VFA-137, Kestrels.
She was there, had a great time from what she tells me. Flying AND playing at tourist.
