OPM letter…

I knew it was coming… It’s like a REALLY bad Halloween prank…

OPM letter blanked

I’ll take the fee credit monitoring, etc… It’s not like I’m not ALREADY on a bunch of lists…

Of note, I didn’t see any mention of fingerprints, which I know they also got…

Sigh…

OPM letter… — 25 Comments

  1. Got my letter last week. I like how they only offer the monitoring to me and my dependent children under the age of 18. How about the adults and older dependent children whose personal information I had to provide for the background investigation?

  2. Kirk- THAT is my question too! There is a TON of info on others on that SF-86. Dammit…

  3. Hey Old NFO;

And the big government types want to be in charge….and they can’t even handle their own affairs….?

  4. “I share your concern and frustration…”

Yeah, right. That and $1 will get you a cup of coffee.

I’m lucky. I got out of the Army decades ago, back when all the records were paper.

  5. Happy November! The lovely, caring letter from your doting godparents at OPM should warm the veritable cockles of your heart, no?

  6. Wonder if I’ll get one….

I’ve had several clearances in the past, including one of the ones that requires a “special background investigation”………

  7. Both the Smarter Half and I have gotten these.
I see a day when we wake up to ALL our bank accounts, investments, and what-have-you are all in Peking or Moscow or Nigeria.
Wonder what Obama’s cut will be?

  8. There’s two versions of the letter. You (and I) got the “they didn’t steal your fingerprints” version…..bull bleep, they got everything but our dna and the administration will give that away next week! I kept a hard copy of my last SF86 bring up and using that have notified anybody I listed on it (relatives, references, etc.) that their names, addresses, phone numbers were stolen.
Signing up takes some time; have a cuppa joe handy before you start.

  9. What the heck, that sucks! One of the advantages here of being a nobody in the back of beyond.

  10. Bob/gfa/Tim- Yeah, they ‘care’… Not a damn bit…

    Rev- @#(*&%$ no! 🙂

    drjim- you will…

Stretch- Yeah, I still say we should just ask the Chinese for Hillary’s emails…

Grog- I think he wants to kill me, but I’d die happy!!!

Haze Grey- I did, and yes it takes a while, especially to fill in ALL details…

WSF- I’m sure if you EVER filled out an SF-86 your ‘stuff’ is out there…

Dammit- Don’t count on it, Grandson probably had you on his…

  11. Jim, China wont give us Hildabeast’s e-mails ’cause they’re going to use them to blackmail her.

  12. Yep. Same letter here – and just had to fill out another form for my PR. I had a hard time wanting to turn that in. Of course we are using the “fillable” version of the pdf so that we can create a “paper” version…then print it, scan it, e-mail it to the FSO.

  13. I got one too, Likewise so did my (deceased) wife. Last SF-86 I did – back in 2008 – for my security update ran to 102 pages when I finished it. Still have a hard copy of it. I’ve been out of the bidness for about six years now but I ‘spose I’d better got through the motions.

  14. All- Word to the wise, get the letter, do the drill… I don’t think they KNOW how far back the penetration goes…

  15. I have had mine a few weeks. I already have credit frauds on my records and my son’s who was killed last year that I have been re-initiating every 90 days. I have been retired for 11 years but working as a contractor since so my clearance is still active for my contractor job. The last time my clearance was run was back when the paper version was run and I am due for another investigation next year. I do not have a warm fuzzy about this.

  16. Tsquared- Truly sorry to hear that. And I’m in the same boat. Coming due again next year. I’ve been frauded three times over the past 5 years, including one identity theft.

  17. I got mine last week as well. This is the third time in the last two years I’ve received free credit monitoring because some morons don’t know how to secure a database.

Today Comcast sent me an alert that someone was trying to hack into my account and required me to change my password.

I’m starting to believe that hacking into other peoples’ accounts is the 21st century equivalent of horse stealing and should be dealt with the same way.
