One last trip…

Couldn’t get out the door without getting hooked one last time… Sigh…

Stopped off on the way south and I had to grab a quick lunch with LL from the Virtual Mirage. We pretty much decided we’re a couple of old dinosaurs who don’t play well with others in this politically correct environment today.

We also decided we were adrenalin junkies, based on our respective careers…LOL

Gotta admit he’s taken it to a new level, his new toy is a Ducati Diavel bike. It’s a damn beast!!!

Anyhoo, spent yesterday doing turnover with my relief, gave my last brief and slogged back to LAX. FIVE hours 15 minutes to go 113 miles… You folks that live on the left coast can KEEP this s**t… I thought it was bad in the late 90’s when I worked out here, but today it’s ridiculous!

Gah…

One last trip… — 13 Comments

  1. Have patience my friend. In a few days you’ll be sitting at a bench on a range wondering where that *&%#$@$* flyer came from and how you managed to get it so far away from the rest of your group. AND that will be the most vexing problem of your day!

  2. Went back to the left coast in October for continuing education. My feelings are like yours-
When there are EIGHT lanes of highway on either side of the median, and all 8 are filled with cars going 2 mph…
That’s too damn many people in one area.
(And most of ’em vote like idiots.)

  3. Adrenalin is the drug of our generation of warrior. Today’s generation of rainbow leadership takes all of the joy out of doing what we did under Reagan, Bush/Bush and even Billy BJ Clinton. Things may return to what they once were, but for now, the glory days have passed.

Thanks for coming and visiting on your work trip…I think that you need a Ducati.

  4. What LL just said. My wife & I often lament that our daughters will never know the things we accepted as normal, at their age. Oh well, I’m not looking forward to near-term as much as they do, because they’re young and full of optimism. Me? I’m starting to anticipate Heaven, and an end to all this madness.
But don’t mind me: I’m in full “curmudgeon” mode today.

  5. We came to age with, “Hey, watch this”, and, “It seemed like a good idea at the time”. I do believe that lives on in places. Skateboards? BMX bicycles? MMA?

  6. Got an ’88 Paseo for sale if you miss the thrill of the Diavel. I quit riding after I bought it because it scared me – 55mph in 1st gear at 3000rpm with 6000rpm and four gears left… heh, heh, heh

    • I know, the Diavel shifting pattern – 95 mph to kick it into 6th and it’s humming down the road at 4K RPM, just idling

  7. Yeah, and it keeps getting worse!

My wife kept asking “Where’s all the traffic?” the last time we were in Colorado….

  8. Left that place after boot and A school (1974) and never went back. East coast Boomers and stayed for 22 and out. 20 years here Nucor Steel outside of Charleston and leaving for Florida Mar 1. No more running up and down I-95 to and from Winter Park, Fl. Good luck in Tx, I look forward a few years to get back that way a little north Ak or Ok. back out into the less populated areas. Stay safe.

  9. Roger- True! 😉

    Ed- Yep… sigh

    GB- Yep, all true… well, 99% anyway…

LL- Agreed! And if I got one of those beasts, I’d kill myself in a week…LOL

Rev- Can’t disagree, and you’re right, this is a one way trip!

    WSF- It does, but weakly…

emdfl/LL- LOL, I did dirt bikes and off road racing back in the 70s. I survived that, gave up riding on the road in the early 80s.

drjim- Time for y’all to move too! 🙂

    Rick- Oh yeah!!! 😀

    dammit- Thanks!

Royal- I split my time, 11 years east, 11 years west… sigh. And 95 is no piece of cake these days either!
