By hook, or by crook…

The gun banners have lost at the federal and state levels since 2014, and at least four states are putting forth ballot measures designed to put more limits on gun owners…

Washington- Take guns out of the hands of people who are subject to extreme risk protection orders, which include restraining orders and people at risk of suicide (I don’t know the ‘details’ on who decides the level of risk).

Nevada/Maine- Expanded background check requirements to include private gun sales (don’t know if this includes ‘gifts’ between generations, e.g. father to son/daughter).

California- Proposition 63 to decide whether to ban the possession of large-capacity magazines, and also require individuals to pass a background check before purchasing ammunition. (So… What happens if they go buy it in Nevada?)

And talking about background checks…

In 2015, 271,359 background checks of gun buyers were incomplete after the federal government’s three-day limit, according to data provided by the FBI to The Greenville News. Of those, 9,063 were later denied. That means 9,063 people the FBI later determined should not be allowed to own a gun were allowed to buy guns because the agency could not complete a background check in time.

This is up from 6,000 in 2014…

Several bills filed in South Carolina’s Legislature in the past year sought to change the waiting period for background checks, expanding it to 28 days or until the check is complete, as Clyburn’s bill in Congress does.

None of the bills received a hearing in the Senate, though one is planned in Charleston later this year.

One can only wonder how much money Bloomie and others on the left are spending in these states to get these measures pushed through?

THE question we should be asking is where are the bills for reciprocal carry rights???

  1. I had lunch with an old DEA type and we were discussing the new gun laws in various states. I had unkind things to say about the progs and he said, “would any law stop you from carrying whatever you wanted?”

    Interesting question.

    I said, “no.”

He said, if they banned the sale of firearms here and you wanted something, how would you get it?

I said, “there’s an inexhaustible supply of WHATEVER you want right across that progressively open Mexican border.”

    His reply, “so why worry?”

  2. Passing a law is one thing, gaining compliance is another thing all together.

The first only takes ink and paper, the second will cost much more.

  3. Oh joy. Let’s have the law abiding citizens wait 28 whole days for a gun. Meanwhile, a crook can pick one up in about an hour.

  4. Meanwhile, to answer your question about reciprocity: last time I checked, Alaska had reciprocity with about 37 other states. If they honor ours, we honor theirs. Easy peasy.

    • I swear, I’m moving to Alaska!! Low humidity, no temps in the 90’s, lots of pretty mountains, I’m sure I can get a job as a nurse there, and reciprocity…course Sweetie lived there for 25+ years and isn’t very interested in going back…says it got too civilized, plus he is no longer a fan of cold(er) weather. He says BTDT. Sigh.

  5. Hey Old NFO;

I think S.C changed their reciprocarry to match other states like GA and Texas. SC used to have major restrictions like MASS.

  6. re WA: it will require a court order for the removal of the firearms.

Reciprocity, WA requires the other state to meet the current Federal minimums, there is an RCW (state law) requiring the Attorney General to monitor and add or remove other states based on the RCW criteria.

  7. Risk of suicide? It sounds like that’s definitely overreaching into someone’s medical history to determine that. And medical history should NOT be in the hands of government. Thanks for the update on the recent musings going on about gun control

  8. In the 1960’s California has super great gun shows.
They lasted till the early 1980’s.
Today, Texas has super great gun shows.
There is no reason to change, because this is TEXAS.

  9. Viteus- Wasn’t aware of that. Thanks!

Charles- Yep, LA County fairgrounds at Pomona. FIVE buildings full of guns and accessories, and NO bling… sigh

  10. Yes, a federal agency can’t do something efficiently, and within the required period of time, so we should make it easier for them to procrastinate longer! It’s brilliant! …wait…

Seriously though, why 28 days? Why not just go for the gold (in totalitarian hoplophobe minds) and make it 28 YEARS? No, really, why the heck not? It’s what they *want* to do, and God knows that there’s so great a surfeit of spines in politics these days that they could almost unquestionably get away with it (at least for a short time), so why don’t they try?

…I swear, there aren’t enough blunted stakes in the world to hold all of these b@$t@rds…and feeding them to the sharks would just be an ecological disaster, considering how sick that would make the sharks…hmm…maybe some rabid wild hogs? I don’t think *anything* they eat disagrees with *their* stomachs, and even if it did, that’d be a win-win, right?

*ahem*…Why yes, imagining various -unpleasant- means/methods of execution (post-hypothetical-revolt) for our political “masters” *does* make me feel better sometimes… How’d you guess?

    *ahem*…*apologetic, sheepish expression*
