What???

Nothing like getting thrown under the bus by ‘friends’… Sigh…

There I was minding my own business, going to sneak in the back  and listen to Larry Correia give a panel. Or so I thought…

Lawdog , Peter, and I got hijacked by Larry to BE the panelists, and join him at the presenters’ table. Nothing like getting up totally cold, and talking for an hour about self-publishing, the state of the market and the industry, and how we got to where we are to about 80 aspiring authors. Now you have to understand, all four of us go way back to Internet gun forums before the turn of the century, so it was fun to ‘blame’ Larry for all of us now being authors.

Some of the more ‘interesting’ comments came later in the day/evening from folks that had been in the panel about how well we’d done, but one guy accused us of ‘cheating’, because we had a built in fan base from the gun forums…

I may have smiled and said something to the effect of “If you’re not cheating, you’re not trying.” Which got me a smile and an eye roll. 🙂

Last day is tomorrow, and hopefully I can play catchup with some of the other panelists that I have questions for…

  1. Hey Old NFO;

You need to get a pic of all of y’all and the “ILOH” and have y’all sign the pic…Man that would be worth some money on Ebay or a good fundraiser…

  2. So you get strong armed to appear with a very successful, prolific author who has a huge fan base…I would take it as a very large compliment that he thinks all 3 of you, who are at various levels of length of time in the career of being a writer, all successfully cause you are all published, would be exactly the right folks to talk to the wanna-be’s. Who better to show how it is done than folks who have been there, and got the check to cash?
Makes sense to me. And, I bet it was a very fun as well as informative panel. I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall. Besides, ya know, Larry was there to have your back, so the train wouldn’t have gone too far off-track.

Just think…of all the new eyeballs that now know about your series, and will go looking at it, and probably buy some books. Networking!! Aint it great?!?!

Now you three are going to have to figure out some payback for Larry…:)

  3. OK, I have a serious case of envy down here. 🙂 OTOH I’m getting used to being shanghaied for presentations and talking at people. (“Miss Red! Can you cover [class] next period for Mr. Speedy? He’s got the crud.”)

  4. Oh my! I don’t suppose there’s a way to buy a copy of the audio or some such. I’d love to know more about your collective experiences in publishing.

  5. Okay, hearing about that makes me think of things like the All-Stars game, the Dream Team, and so forth.

Not sure I could have maintained proper decorum in that room. I likely would have started having some kind of FanBoy experience…

  6. Sounds oddly similar to Libertycon last year, doesn’t it? You, Tom, and a couple of others got press-ganged into doing an indie publishing panel?

  7. I am so jealous! Not just hang with Larry, but be asked to be on a panel with him. And be with the rest of the “gang” too.
I got to hang with Larry for an hour or so when he did a book signing years ago at Fort Belvior. Had a great time, was able to pass him particular R.M.O. at that time. He’s a big dude but a heart of gold – until you piss him off.
Y’all have a great time, safe travels!

  8. All- Thanks for the comments… And yes, this has happened before… sigh

There is a possibility that the video will be made available in a month or so.
