Sigh…

First it was Tailhook… And the politically correct patch. And yes, there IS an easter egg in the patch. Bonus points if you know what it is.

Now it’s callsigns… Politically correct, will be assigned to all pilots…

Sigh… It’s truly NOT my Navy anymore.

  1. Chorus:

    “Snafubar Bohica!
    It means you’re screw-ed, for the rest of your life!”

    There’s more; the entire song transmogrifies to military operations and RDT&E.

    Disney’s Hakuna Matata mutated greatly late at night, on a field test that was both FUBARed and SNAFU. I decline to quantify the caffeine overload needed to maintain awareness that night, other than “no &^%$ it was oh-dark-thirty”, and conditions were not cooperating.

  2. Looks like the politically correct patch is referencing the UCMJ.

  3. As with blamed near everything, Kipling anticipated our predicament. An excerpt from “Tommy:”

    We aren’t no thin red ‘eroes, nor we aren’t no blackguards too,
    But single men in barricks, most remarkable like you;
    An’ if sometimes our conduck isn’t all your fancy paints,
    Why, single men in barricks don’t grow into plaster saints;
    While it’s Tommy this, an’ Tommy that, an` Tommy, fall be’ind,”
    But it’s ” Please to walk in front, sir,” when there’s trouble in the wind.

    No. Single men in barracks DON’T grow into plaster saints.
    And if it’s plaster saints you want, you will find them remarkably ineffective when the time comes when you want them to defend an air base in the rock pile, or land on a carrier deck at night in bad weather, or scoop a drowning yachtsman out of the deep blue sea, or make a hot breakfast for the troops thousands of miles from the nearest grocery store, or get the blessed generator running again under “difficult conditions.”
    In fact, about the only thing a plaster saint is good for is to sit silently on a shelf.

    Just my opinion, and not intended to be any representation of reality. Of course not.

  4. PK- OH yeah… sigh

    Tweel- Not quite. It’s the actual dates of Tailhook 91 🙂 It was an ‘I was there, but you can’t prove anything’ patch…

    LL- Nope

    WSF- Among other things… Dammit…

    Pat- Well said, and sadly true.

  5. Less than two months here and the PC Police came through the office asking question. GOV working in the outer office and her “artist” husband (not on base) saw something un-PC on a coworker’s social media page and got their panties (big ones, BTW) in a twist. Nothing was said at work, it was all non-work related.
    And that’s why I don’t do social media and limit my blog comments.
    Call signs and patches I cannot comment on – none seem risque and maybe that’s what the PC Police want.

  6. Jeze, now I’m wondering if we’d get in trouble for
    “Jam it til it hertz” and “Up your gain!”…
