And we have an anthology…

Interesting little things happen at writer cons…

Like this- Literally got put together over two days!

HERE is the link for SPOTREPS – A Maelstrom Rising Anthology.  And I’m VERY happy to be part of this one. There are some damn good writers involved, and I get to play in somebody else’s universe!

The writers are:

Larry Correia
Mike Kupari
LawDog
Brad Torgersen
James Rosone
Mike Massa
Steven Hildreth, Jr.
David Reeder
Chris Hernandez
Jonathan LaForce

I’ve already written my first draft and am waiting for feedback, but I’ll share the opening paragraphs of my story-

Ranger Enrique Sandoval sat in his black Tahoe at the burnt-out remains of the Love’s Truck Stop on I-40, just east of Amarillo. He fiddled with the radio squelch and volume, making sure it was high enough to hear over the wind, then turned the AM radio down as he looked at his watch. I hope Austin knows what they’re doing. Sit out here and wait for a radio call from Leroy Jenkins, then meet with… Hell, I don’t even know who these people are that I’m supposed to meet. Triarii? Some kind of quasi-military group? And they’re running a convoy of supplies. From where to where? And I’m not to ask questions, or try to pull them over, or let anybody else in law enforcement know about it. This is fu…

The radio suddenly came alive on the Ranger’s tactical frequency. “Lone Star, Leroy Jenkins. Lone Star, Leroy Jenkins, how copy?”

Enrique keyed up. “Leroy Jenkins, have you lima charlie. I am at the designated meet point. Black Tahoe.”

“Leroy Jenkins is ten out. One vehicle, M1117, will approach you.”

“Roger.”

This one is going to be a fun read, with all the different perspectives and authors, I’m REALLY looking forward to it!

And we have an anthology… — 15 Comments

  1. Very nice hook to pull us in (again!). Bookmarked the page to replace a lost link. Looking forward to this anthology as well; that’s a lot of writing and other firepower.

  2. Dystopian WW-IV. Sounds vaguely familiar.

    Turning and turning in the widening gyre
    The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
    Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
    Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
    The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
    The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
    The best lack all conviction, while the worst
    Are full of passionate intensity.

  3. Sounds like something I may enjoy. I’ll be looking forward to it.

  4. Speaking of the centre (sic) not holding, my all time favorite might be this from Marshal Ferdinand Foch, 1914. Not particularly on point, but a great quote.

    Mon centre cède, ma droite recule, situation excellente, j’attaque.

    My centre is giving way, my right is retreating, excellent situation , I am attacking.

  5. PK- Good! Hope it turns out as well as we hope!

    McC- Exactly… And worth remembering…

    Jim- I hope so!

    Herso- Yep, quite the quote, all things considered!

  6. Hey Old NFO;

    Man there are some serious names on that list. I can’t wait for the book:) Hurry up, LOL

  7. Congrats! Solid writers all. Just means there’s another thing to add to the ever increasing of things I need to find time to read.

  8. The reading list is another title longer.
    Waiting with barely concealed excitement.

  9. Tell LaForce hi from me.
    Say leaperman said hi. He’ll know me.

    🙂
