Ad hoc…

Meeting of the North Texas Writers, Pilots, and Shooters Association last night for supper. It was…interesting…

And we did a ‘Texas’ Christmas dinner. Brisket, DD Tamales, beans, ham, etc. with homemade cookies for dessert!

From discussions of Sati and Charles Napier, to comparisons of various weapons, to an argument over Star Wars canon, to stupid pet tricks in the same (why the hell fly THROUGH the asteroid belt when they could have just as easily went above or below) Best comment- Whoever wrote that was not a flyer and could only think in two dimensions…

And pieces/parts of manuscripts were exchanged, read, commented on and discussed. And the kids went home with sugar highs… LOL

  1. I hope one of your number raised the point that the asteroid ‘belt’ is sparse. It’s not like crossing a busy freeway!

  2. Tamales – now I miss trips to NM, and the Thurday tamale lunches. Sinfully good, made under Angela’s stern gaze. (stomach rumble)

    • Abulela, you silly otto korrekt. She’ll get the big wooden spoon to deal with you.

  3. Thanks for having us all over, and the alpha read! I had to laugh – Christmas Day was nice and quiet with just Calmer Half & myself, and then Boxing Day was Family Christmas, complete from toddler chasing the swarm of littles to the teen in the corner, to the adults cussin’ and discussin’ out in the driveway…

And of course, half the people are all in the kitchen. Because people always end up in the kitchen, no matter what you plan!

  4. Dang it, now I’m hungry thinking about fresh made tamales. Mom used to go into Little Mexico area of Dallas about once a month and bring back tamales and pralines. Both were Yummy!

Glad a good time was had by all.

Regarding thinking in only two dimensions, a girlfriend from a previous life was a pilot long before she drove a car. It was humorous seeing her pull up on the car’s steering wheel as she approached traffic until she realized she was trapped in only two dimensions and couldn’t go over the cars ahead.

    • Makes me hungry enough for tamales to consider the canned ones from the supermarket.

  5. The dinner and the conversation sound FUN. I love those sorts of gatherings.

  6. Family gatherings used to have four generations in attendance, with cousins, aunts & uncles from all over. Babble, noise, multiple simultaneous conversations … used to make me a little crazed.

Now I’d give anything to have such a gathering just once more. Your description makes me more than a bit jealous. I’m glad all y’all had a great time.

  7. Well, if you want to get serious, there’s a whole lot of stupid in the Star Wars universe. A whole lotta stupid.

Like, oh, gee Mr. Jedi, meet my M134 gatling gun. Brrrrt.

Or.. There’s two Jedi in room 134. Blow the window. Buh-bye Jedi…

‘Laser’ and ‘Blaster’ fire that moves slower than a musket ball. And penetrates armor, so why wear that stuff anyways.

After watching episodes 1 and 2, I really started to see the Empire as the good guys…

High classed Buck Rodgers. That’s all it is. Yet people take it sooo very seriously.

    • Beans: I spend time with someone at least 5 days/week who plays Star-Wars-Whatever online constantly. Jedi-Schmedi, I’m running out of excuses to not be interested in blasters, etc. 2-D graphics don’t compare with seeing real-life point-defense missiles failing to clear the rail!

  8. All- Thanks for the comments! And this was really the biggest ‘gathering’ we’ve done since…May, I guess.

    • Guy: Go Navy! Drug Deal tamales ‘cuz it ain’t legal to feed folks without permission from TPTB so’s ya gotta be kinda be sneaky when things change hands. Or so I infer from previous blog posts.
