Those pesky facts…

About EVs and they actual burdens…

Links to the studies mentioned are live in the below items.

For example, as the experts at powerthefuture.com point out, here are 10 facts about EVs the Left doesn’t want Americans to know:

1. EVs are powered by fossil fuels. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), fossil fuel-based power plants — coal, oil, or natural gas — create about 60% of the nation’s electrical grid, while nuclear power accounts for nearly 20%.

2. The batteries of EVs rely on cobalt. An estimated 70% of the global supply of cobalt emanates from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, a country with deplorable working conditions, especially for children.

4. Supporters of the California law admit there will be a 40% increase in demand for electricity, adding further strain to the grid and requiring increased costs for power and infrastructure.

5. According to one researcher, the strain of adding an EV is similar to adding “1 or 2 air conditioners” to your home, except an EV requires power year-round.

6. Today, 20 million American families, or one in six, have fallen behind on their electric bills, the highest amount ever.

7. Utility companies will need to add $5,800 in upgrades for every new EV for the next eight years in order to compensate for the demand for power. All customers will shoulder this cost.

8. The average price for an electric vehicle is currently $66,000, up more than 13% in just the last year, costing an average of $18,000 more than the average combustible engine. Meanwhile, the median household income is $67,521. For African American families, the average is $45,870, and for Hispanic households, $55,321.

9. A 2022 study found that the majority of EV charging occurs at home, leaving those who live in multi-family dwellings (apartments) at a real disadvantage for charging.

10. The same study also noted that many drivers charge their EVs overnight when solar power is less available on the grid.

I’ve posted about this mess before, and it will be an even bigger mess as more and more of the EVs come on line in subdivisions that don’t have enough power coming into their subdivisions to actually charge them AND power the homes…

Those pesky facts… — 22 Comments

  1. “Combustible engine” ?? As in “catches fire?” I think they mean ‘internal combustion’

  2. This EV push is not about the environment. It is about control and enslavement of those that survive the jab, the food shortages, and the nuclear war that the WEF and the big international bank heads have plotted to drop on the world. These super wealthy individuals involved with these groups are all insane. These insane wealthy individuals believe they will be able to move from their mortal human bodies into machines and live forever as masters of the world. The return of Jesus Christ is not far off and in order to make it through all of this insanity, if you have not done so, I am urging you to pray to almighty God, repent of your sins, ask Jesus Christ into your heart, and trust only in him, not man or governments. Give your heart, your mind, and body to Him.

  3. Trains, planes, and TRUCKS.
All the stuff we buy in stores is transported by fossil fuel burning vehicles. EV’s are nowhere near being able to replace them at this time.
    This is chaos.
And I can’t help but believe it is EXACTLY what our Masters want.

  4. “…many drivers charge their EVs overnight when solar power is LESS available on the grid”

“LESS” available? How about non-existent unless it comes from three or more time-zones away.

    • Which renders any electricity from green sources 3-4 or more timezones away useless due to drop-off over distances.

  5. I would like to see a study on the cradle-to-grave cost per mile for EVs and for comparable internal combustion cars. It should include all the raw material (iron ore, cobalt) needed and the environmental costs for each. Also the recycle cost/benefits when the car is scrapped.

    I know – dream on.

    • An additional thought: the cost per mile to fuel the cars, including electrical generation and gasoline production.

  6. Summertime here in Colorado and I see many EVs on the road. Wonder how many we will see in February? Also, none of those drivers are paying for the roads they drive on.

    • actually – everyone pays for roads with income and real estate taxes – the government decided to charge extra for roads by putting a gasoline tax and trying to convince people that is what pays for roads. Whenever govt can find a new tax and then try to convince people that tax is for ‘special purposes’ it can then spend the general revenue that is supposed to pay for roads and schools on something else. Its the something else that is the problem – not the EV’s on the roads

  7. Current EVs are like race cars. Race cars are cool, but have a high running cost and are not practical for individual daily use. The same with EVs – they are cool but not practical. And anyone who thinks we will charge all electric vehicles with solar and wind only are dreaming: we might as well say they will be charged with unicorn farts.

    • SLee: Dogdammit! I was gonna buy an EV for the work commute and collect the farts from our local unicorn herd to power my un-natural-gas electrical generator. The devil is in the details.

Seriously: 90%-ish of commuters are 20 miles from work. EVs almost make sense for a subsection of worker drones. Almost…

  8. The power companies encourage nighttime charging by charging less for power overnight – so thats a self fufilling prophecy.

Cal ISO just issued a ‘don’t charge ev’ request for the next WEEK given the heat wave. That should prove interesting over the next week or so for people if they follow the request. If you’re gonna demand people only drive EV’s and yet let those same people prevent you from building sufficient generating capacity to power those vehicles – has to be a special kind of stupid.

      • Yeah! Now the real fun begins. 1) restoring her while 2) keeping the Sea Aggies from “reconditioning and improving” her.

I can just hear it. “How did you adjust a Bofors gun to act like an Aegis system and you’d better un-adjust it now!”

  9. When I watched The Widow (2019) with Kate Beckinsale, I was amazed at the poor light they cast cobalt mining by children in.

  10. Anyone believing that the purpose of EVs is to replace ICE vehicles is a moron. The push for EVs….which CANNOT replace ICE technology, is to totally destroy ICE vehicles and the infrastructure supporting them. Once. ICE tech is destroyed EVs will join ICE technology on the scrap heap of socialism. The real goal is the complete end of ALL privately owned transportation. They want us ALL totally dependent on public transport so THEY can decide if, when and where THEY will allow you to go.

  11. D.A./TXRed- Good news, and 18 months to ‘play’… could be ‘interesting’…

    Ed- And that is true.

Dan- I think you are correct, but that doesn’t work in flyover states! We don’t have ‘public transportation out here in the sticks!

    • What makes you think they want you to remain in “the sticks”? The focus is to move EVERYONE into a megalopolis, so you can’t interact with “the wild”. Public transport, or your feet, is the only way you will move, once there.
Won’t need many megas once the vaxx gets done killing off the surplus population, anyway. Still won’t kill enough of them, which is why the push to ruin food production worldwide.

  12. Landlord just got his Tesla. Ordered it TWO YEARS ago! He tells me he can make a profit if he sells it now. LOTS of them in the San Jose area. Always at least one in sight on the road. His street looks like a Tesla dealership. It plugs into a 110v outlet, which is the default method.
