I’m baccckkkk…

Intarwebz is fixed! Turns out it was a broken wire in the can on the pole. Probably caused by all the winds the last few days banging the can back and forth.

And thankfully, we’ve gotten over 2 1/4 inches of rain in the last 24 hours, so we’re ONLY about 5 inches behind now.

BUT, the temps went from the 70s to the 40s, and my tired old body isn’t liking it worth $.02… Especially my back! The change in temps, along with the humidity just makes it painful to do anything. Or I should say, more painful.

It was interesting to get back on the net yesterday and see the absolutely hilarious blow up over Musk taking control of Twitter! You’d think the end of the world is coming!!!

Snort…

And the Marines have a new recruiting ad up, no wokeness at all!!!

  1. Hey Old NFO;

Now if Reality will match the Film and advertisement. I am hoping the Army, Navy and AirForce join the program but I am not optimistic with all the O-7 and higher that have hitched their wagons to the “Diversity and Inclusion” wagon for that next star and have forced all the war fighters out.

  2. Hot showers, Ibuprofen, Bourbon. In any order. Us experienced folks are WAY better weather guessers than those people on TV.

  3. I can’t relate to cold weather and joint pain and the aches of a body that is feeling the wear and tear of decades of abuse. Being a man of steel, none of that applies to me, as you’d expect… Ok, maybe a little rust here and there.

I bought a soaking tub for the hovel and I use it. Hot water and gentle painkillers, steak and eggs (keto) breakfasts, etc.

The equity agenda would be laughable if it wasn’t taken seriously by the gullible population, Old NFO.

  4. Addendum: I just remodeled the bathroom and put in a slipper tub (clawfoot with one end tall). I haven’t taken a bath since I was a kid but how I’m thinking about it. Mainly I put it in as a chick magnet (JK). For soreness though, some bath additives, really hot water, this might be nice.

“Perhaps infusing some blossom of bitter orange. Adding some sprinklings of sage while it is still warm. There are those who will add apricot and almond oil and even, the heavens defend us, sedra. But then there are always those that will overdo things.”

Can any of you writers identify that quote? Hint: supposed to be very good for eagle wounds. 🙂

  5. Aches and pains with age. 1500 mg Acetaminophen and a gin and tonic = 3-4 hours of uninterrupted sleep. We do what we must. Risks are taken into consideration vs benefits.

  6. I feel your pain. We went from warm to cold this week in the PNW, and my joints are killing me. Chores this morning, then blankets, bourbon and ibuprofen this afternoon.

  7. Bob- Good point… sigh

    Art- That we are!

Hereso- Always has been with the Marines.

    LL- Heard ALL that!

    Ed- Thanks!

    Hereso- Douglas Adams???

    WSF- Yep!

    SL- Do what you gotta!

  8. Hmmm… the advert started with fighting global climate change and then got good. Rather better than the Army advertisements.

As to old, well, um, yeah. Hot baths with some epsom salts work better than hot showers, except that requires getting down and then up unless you have one of those sitting baths with the door (which I highly recommend if you have the bucks, really nice, indoor hot tub, very good on the aches and pains.)

    • I could be grasping at straws here, but given the tone of the rest of the ad, I think the beginning was showing the Marines operating in an urban threat environment that transformed into a jungle/woodlands threat environment that transformed into the mountain/arctic threat environment, etc.

  9. My hands did not like the weather change. What my bad knee said, well, I can’t use that language here. Suffice it to say I was using my cane Thursday afternoon, before the weather hit.

  10. Regarding Acetaminophen: A sister worked for a research physician back in the 70’s/80’s, and he told her to avoid the stuff, as he was seeing organ damage at recommended dosage levels in VA patients. Liver and kidney damage IIRC, but the details are dim after so much time.

    • If you have iffy kidneys, Acetaminophen can be a no-no. And you can overdose on it and there’s no recovery from it, and it’s a very painful way to die.

  11. If I got down in a hot bathtub, I probably wouldn’t be able to drag myself back out. I guess I’ll just stick to hot showers

Although ibuprofen works fairly well, I’m supposed to seriously limit my intake due to my stage 2 kidney disease. Acetaminophen is worthless and does absolutely nothing, and the same with naproxen sodium. Aspirin has to be limited due to digestive issues, although it is what works best.

    • You might try, if the pain is nerve pain, getting your doctor to prescribe gabapentin or Lyrica (whatever it’s generic name is.)
