U.S. Marine Corps Major Gen. Chris A. McPhillips announced Tuesday that the 248th Marine Corps Ball has been canceled by the U.S. Central Command, citing “unforeseen operational commitments.”
McPhillips announced the update to the annual event, scheduled on November 16 in Tampa, Florida, for former and retired maritime land forces to get dressed to the nines and celebrate the tradition and legacy of the Marine Corps.
“Due to unforeseen operational commitments and the nature of our current mission, it is with great regret that we must cancel this year’s event,” McPhillips wrote in a letter.

They must be reading the prophets. The Bible states in various prophecies that many nations will surround Israel with the intention to invade and wipe Israel off the map. China has already issued a map of the middle east omitting Israel as a nation. Turkey, Iran, Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, and other Muslim nations are mentioned in these prophecies. God Himself has stated He will destroy the armies arrayed against Israel. That may be what the powers that be are watching. This is one of the signs that must occur among others leading up to the return of the Lord Jesus Christ.

On topic. Say, by way of wild conjecture, that one or more of our aircraft carriers were sunk by a hypersonic missile. How soon could we rebuild them?
In the same vein, imagine Europa going to war with us as allies. Do they have any ammo factories? For that matter, do we? Well, kinda. Who knows, perhaps we could offshore the issue to China and India.

Europe has more and larger artillery-manufacturing facilities than the US.
Britain, Spain, the Czech Republic and -I think – Germany. South Korea has a very large manufacturing capacity and even little old Australia could churn out 200,000 per annum if we spun right up.
America has 9 or 10 fleet carriers, and at least a dozen smaller carriers – not including heli-carriers.
To replace on of your fleet carriers with another Gerry Ford would take a while, but America is still building them and has the facilities.
As far as building warships here in the US, what we have now, is all we will ever have, most likely. We are in worse shape than the Nips were during WW2, in regards to building, or repairing ships. Like the rest of our heavy manufacturing capability, it was all torn down and sold overseas. IIRC, China got most of it.
Currently, we have two shipbuilders that can build subs. However, some critical hull forming equipment for one of them was sold, so, in reality, we only have ONE sub builder in existence.
We have made no effort to retain the experienced personnel needed for shipbuilding. They don’t grow on trees. You have to be constantly building to maintain that experience, but we decided to throw it all away in some sort of “freedom reward” idiocy. After Reagan, it all went away.
After the Dot Com blowup, I watched as most all the machine-shops in the Silicon Valley area were auctioned off. Everything from one man shops to warehouse sized facilities. I saw the same thing listed in the L A. area, but I don’t know how extensive it was there, or elsewhere. Took near two years to sell them off.
Maybe when our money is worth nothing on the world market, we might consider revising our homegrown manufacturing capability. Yeah, right…
A country seldom gets a do-over after this badly managing their future. Actually, I’m not sure any others have so extensively depleted their capabilities as we have done. Forging new ground, we are.

First thing to point out is that if the Corps was planning anything really interesting, they would be unlikely to broadcast their intent by telling the whole world that they were going to be busy.
Ergo…. this is either a flagrant breach of OPSEC….. or the whole world already knows what is going on and some of us just haven’t put all the pieces together yet. My money would be on some kind of deployment as a deterrent. Putting the men and ships on somebody’s doorstep can be a pretty serious hint that “Try that and you won’t enjoy the results!”.
