Sigh…
Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin announced the creation of a new maritime task force Monday with the aim of safeguarding commercial ships operating in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.
Operation Prosperity Guardian will include the United Kingdom, Bahrain, Canada, France, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Seychelles and Spain.

I really wonder who is in control up there these days… The ‘simple’ answer is ‘counterbattery’ fire from the ships already there to turn the firing points into exploding clouds of…stuff…
But no, apparently the appeasement of Iran continues as the Iranian proxies cause major international problems, shipping delays, and impact the global balance of oil shipments.
Lemme see…who would possibly benefit??? Iran? Russia? My oh my…
Grrr…
“Another war not to be won; another distraction to dazzle the eye.” I expect something similar around Ukraine soon.
Exactly my idea. Pound the launch sites flat. Then pulverize the debris.
And an area 1000 yards around where the launch occurred.
Rinse. repeat as necessary.
Lloyd Austin is the most incompetent Secretary of Defense this country has had since McNamara. Every decision he makes gets our country into another long war situation instead of hitting the Houthis and taking out their ability to cause problems.
Instead of a line in the sand we get a spit in the ocean.
Hey Old NFO;
What is the benefit to the Xidens? Remember in 2016 HRC main advisor was an Iranian born female, I wonder who is feeding intel to Xiden and his advisors to softsoap Iran and their assets in the region. Does the IRGC have their version of a “Sparrow School?” Who benefits, what is the fix? I trust nothing from this administration.
I’m thinking many in the military are so wrapped up in the alphabet gender descriptions, they have no idea they’re being attacked, or realize their mission is to protect their ship, U.S. assets, and destroy enemies. To make things worse, the Commander in Chief has lost the ability to regulate his bowels and comprehend anything more complicated than Sponge Bob cartoons.
All- Concur. Bob- Valerie Jarrett is the ‘sparrow’…
She’s an ugly, scabby sparrow. Just saying…nobody asked me, but…
Tell us how you really feel….
What is needed is two things. First, another ‘Shores of Tripoli’. Second, leaders with the guts to do it. IMO, won’t happen. Sound bites and photo ops only.
You don’t really need a “war” in the classic sense. Sadly, we’ve demobilized the battleships, but shore bombardment these days with a drone overhead doing instant BDA is not bad. Three or four Arleigh Burkes and just bang away until you expend the 5″ ammo, withdraw, VERTREP more, rinse, repeat. Not a war exactly and you don’t have to expend the more expensive ordnance.
Wonder what the “rules of engagement” will be. Doubt they will be actually effective.
Little Barry Soetoro’s third term really, really sucks.
Gunboat diplomacy…
AKA… “You want to escalate? THIS is how we do it!”
I like it.
Obliterating the grid square the attacks are launched from would put a stop to this in short order.
WSF- Probably…sigh
Why isn’t the word Houthi past tense?
If a non-entity is put in place by a coalition of backers, with folks nominated by the backers getting rubber stamp approval, then in effect the government could be split into a number of little fiefdoms, with nobody to make the factions collaborate in any sensible way.
If a bureaucracy is operating without much direction, folks may by rote pursue options that they previously understood as successful.
dunno
The Houthi’s gave survived years of America’s best weapons and ISR being used against them. You won’t accomplish much.
By the way, the guided missile destroyers only carry 90 cruz missiles and then must retreat to a shore base for reload. 90 sounds like a lot but that is what we used against the Syrian Airport when Trump was president. You don’t send just one missle to hit a target. There is maff ‘n stuff to be considered.
When the mission is a failure, and it will fail, this will be the same point that collapsed the English empire. When floods of drones exhaust the air defense missle stocks there will be interruptions in coverage until all US stocks are depleted. Then there is no US Navy presence in the region.
If I was China, I would be giving drones and anti shipping missiles to the Houthi’s. If a drone costs thousands and can be made in a garage and it takes a missle that costs hundreds of thousands or millions and can’t be made as fast as used to shoot down the drone . . . anybody can see the end of this trail. That would be why President Xi told Biden that he would take Taiwan no matter what.
If the Houthi’s don’t defeat the US act, they will severely deplete stocks leaving none left for China. How bad is it? A recent DoD study showed we had enough weapons for the Navy to fight for 2 days. And that was before the fight with the Houthi’s.
Nothing like a good “winnable, controllable war” (see how many lies in that,EH?) to DISTRACT the People from economic troubles.
Ernest Hemingway once said, “The first panacea for a mismanaged nation is inflation of the currency; the second is war. Both bring a temporary prosperity; both bring a permanent ruin. But both are the refuge of political and economic opportunists”
Snip from Bayou Renaissance Man (RTWT, please)
“Recent Affirm research revealed that more than half of Americans (54%) are looking for retailers to offer a buy now, pay later option at checkout. Moreover, we’ve found that 76% of consumers would either delay or not make a purchase without Affirm,” said Pat Suh, Affirm’s SVP of Revenue. “Expanding our partnership with Walmart and bringing Affirm’s transparent monthly pay-over-time options to their self-checkout kiosks in the U.S. will help even more consumers increase their purchasing power during the holiday shopping season and beyond.”
GEE, are we thinking that FOOD will be bought and paid for over 4 months AND that’s a Good IDEA?
We are getting scary close to the “Let them eat cake” part of the French Revolution or the Arab Spring revolt over wheat prices climbing.
Paging Madam Guillotine, Paging Madam Guillotine.
NO Wonder the Powers that Be are lighting the next war.
The question of how to counter all the low cost drones without depleting our expensive missile stocks is simple. We need to put a major “Manhattan Project” type effort into perfecting rail guns on ships, for which the ammo, a chunk of ferric metal, is cheap, and lasers, the ammo for which is electricity. And simultaneously we need a NEW noncorrupt agency tasked with preventing the Chinks and Russkis from stealing the secret to these weapons. That used to then FBI’s job…till they sold out to become the Gestapo for the left.
