Grumble…

Welp, we did our usual 4th of July meal (burgers/dogs/tater salad/beans, and…

Folks brought ‘extras’… and we had a few extra bodies (yea for friends coming to town)!

A good time was had by all, and we hit it about right on the amounts of things cooked! But…I was grilling when it was 107, so I was sweating my ass off! Thanks to all that pitched in to get everything done!!!

An hour later, the ‘cold front’ decided to move in and the temps dropped by 20 degrees.

Got things cleaned up and I headed for a shower and bed! I’m too old for this…LOL

  1. “Too old for this”: And yet you did it. And you’ll probably do it again next year, because if everyone tried to make you sit while they did all the work, you’d soon be working hard at the grill again, because… hospitality.

  2. We went to the parade, concerts, and fireworks celebration that a nearby town throws. Parade and music were good, but after waiting out the drenching 15 minute downpour, the fireworks kept being pushed back because of technical difficulties. Fifteen minutes after we left because of our cranky baby, they finally started launching them – one at a time, manually, because the technical difficulties were with their control system. Still. Good time with family and friends.

  3. “Too old for this” That strikes fear into my bones.
Wife made a wonderful brisket for the two of us.
Listened to the fireworks and occasionally watched them out the window.
Thank you Father for the nation we live in. Please watch over and protect it from tyrants. Particularly the domestic ones.

    • Every once in a while I hear, “I am (getting) too old for this.” Which is hilarious as it’s usually someone much younger saying it. So far I’ve kept my amusement to myself at such times. Now, that’s a struggle.

  4. We only had 95 degrees in S Central Oregon (where even the Subarus are MAGA). Good time at the neighbor’s ranch, though I tried the “rice” salad, only to realize that pasta in the form of rice is a thing. Hope I ate little enough so that repel boarders from both ends of the GI tract isn’t a thing. Who says gluten intolerance is a fad?

Potlucks can be interesting, in the American and Chinese curse senses…

  5. Ag- There is ‘that’… sigh

TOS- That…sucks! But at least they got some fireworks off!

    Ed- Yep

RC- Ouch! And yes, potlucks ‘can’ be interesting…LOL

  6. I have a neighbor that has money, loves fireworks, and gives a free show every holiday that allows fireworks to be sold. Last night’s show was grand. I only had to walk on the porch to see the event, and the coffee made it better. The addition of some brisket made by my in-law was icing on the cake.

  7. In spite of the northern Nevada heat, Fernley had a packed Independence Day parade, car show, pig chase, etc.
Third vehicle from the front of the parade, the only military vehicle in the parade, Goliath the LMTV “War Pig” and trailer. I’m driving, wife is co-driver

Hosting in the heat sucks, but in the end, it is SO WORTH IT!
