“Chicago 2024 won’t be like Chicago 1968. That is the promise of law-enforcement officials and protest organizers alike as the curtain prepares to lift on this year’s Democratic National Convention,” the Wall Street Journal reported over the weekend. “Each side says it aims to maintain the peace even as thousands are expected to demonstrate against the war in Gaza, abortion restrictions and on other hotly contested issues.”
That may just be wishful thinking. According to some reports on social media, more than 1,000 officers are calling in sick.

Interestingly, Monday night at 11pm on the east coast and STILL no Joe Biden at the DNC. It’s well past his naptime… One wonders what is going on with that.
The ‘protesters’ have apparently already started as of noon Monday, but I’m not seeing ANY coverage of it on any of the media.
With over 1000 CPD officers out, now the ‘rumors’ we were hearing last week about ‘extra’ LEOs being called in to work the DNC make a lot more sense. I can’t help but wonder if/how many National Guard have been alerted or sent to Chiraq that we’re also not hearing about.
I dipped in a couple of times (known thine enemy), and it seems like more of the same DNC blather, nothing is your fault, we’re going to ‘fix’ everything, and free (insert whatever here).
I also noted a couple of YouTube videos that had ‘ads’ asking for donations to the DNC yesterday, and that is something I’d never seen.
I wonder if the Fibbies are geofencing the cell phones up there this week?
My memory is a bit foggy after all these years, but I seem to recall an outbreak of “Blue Flu” for the ’68 DNC in Chicago. I do recall that a sitting president had chosen not to run and that his Vice President was assured the nomination. That time there were a couple of “peace” candidates vying for the nomination. It wasn’t that HHH was nominated by acclamation but by the guys in the smoke filled rooms. RFK had won the primaries but was assassinated before the convention. Overall it feels a bit like Deja vu allover again.
The difference is that Hubert Humphrey was a candidate in his own right. He had his own wing of the party supporting him. He wasn’t plucked from obscurity to the VP nomination to make a poor President look better by comparison; instead, he ran for President twice and then ran for VP because he’d realized he needed an extra step in the ladder to beat well-financed men like Johnson or any Kennedy. His home state voted for him every time, and after the first time he also won delegates outside his home state.
And finally, the dirty hippies were demonstrating because they did not like who was winning a majority on the convention floor, even if with help. This time, they will be demonstrating because Biden and Harris both won without a fight, and there’s clearly no democracy in the Democratic Party. If the 1968 DNC had been run like the 2024, tens of thousands of mature, well-dressed men and women might have joined the hippies (and made sure they protested but behaved!)
On the ads — I’ve been being deluged by various folksy and otherwise pleas from Kamala and Walz… they’ve got the wrong puppy. Almost enough to go for the ad free upgrade.
And the demos will be more peaceful, for the simple reason that this time around the protestors actually control the whole show, seems to me, and it’s all theatre.
Tell the BIG lie.
Tell it often.
And the people will begin to believe it.
How can anyone believe these lies? Oh wait…

He showed up. I didn’t bother to listen to him (or any other speakers). I get angry when I see masses of people parading down American streets waving foreign flags. Foreign governments interfering with our country. Then I think about how, in our name, our government interferes in other countries around the world.
Warts and all, we need to get Trump back into office.

What I find interesting is that the Dems haven’t learned anything from the videos of the last 20 years of the DNC.
No US flags visible for the most part. And the hall is often empty, playing to Joe Biden levels of turnout.
Completely unlike what I saw of the feeds from the RNC, with flags everywhere and the floor full of people.
Yet, of course, the eneMedia will tell us the Donks are patriotic because the VP is a Soldier through-and-through and that the selection process of Harris was the most democratically positive process ever.
