Sigh…

I just… Really???

Modern-day Democrats have never been known to excel at “reading the room,” but a group of “progressive” Capitol Hill staffers seem intent on proving the left’s tone deafness with an amazing demand to Congressional leaders: they want to work fewer hours but still get paid a full-time salary.

You see, these poor souls are sometimes asked to work long hours and, gosh, isn’t that unfair? It’s only right that they be rewarded with lighter work schedules.

The group asking for this perk is called the Congressional Progressive Staff Association (CPTA), and they sent a letter to Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA) and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) Thursday pleading with them to “consider adopting a proposal that would improve worker satisfaction, increase staff retention in Congress, and model a more sustainable approach to work on a national level.”

That proposal? A 32-hour workweek when Congress isn’t in session.

Hell, I would have LOVED a short work week at full pay. But I knew there wasn’t a bat’s chance in hell I would even have a job if I was stupid enough to push something like that.

And when you consider how ‘well thought of’ Congress is right now, along with the deep state, one has to wonder where their heads are at (other than needing windshield wipers for their belly buttons).

But I guess bureaucrats gotta bureaucrat, since they ‘know’ their jobs are secure.

Or are they?

  1. I once (briefly) worked for a company the instituted a mediatory 8 hrs hours of unpaid overtime per week. Not ad hoc to take care of some urgent work, but in essence a 48 hr work week with pay for 40. Fortunately this was at a time when people with my skills were in demand. I had a new job within the week.

  2. If you can’t get a 20% pay raise, cut your working hours by 20%.
Unlike the congress critters who wanted a pay raise, they may have gauged the taxpayers POV.

Hey, we didn’t ask for any more money!

Job security, meet DOGE. DOGE, meet… *scythe swings and blood splatters* Ah, I see you’re already acquainted.

    • I’ll be courting a stroke from my cheering if the heads begin to roll.

However, I’ve had the football of Hope yanked away too many times to get very worked up until I see the lines of bureaucrats with their cardboard boxes being led to the street by HR or Security.

  4. I dunno. Considering the damage “progressive” staffers do when they’re working it might be better to pay them something for not working.

  5. Congress made itself exempt from overtime laws, and all the staffers know that when they take the job.

    Suck it up, buttercup.

Wonderful rework of one of my favorites!

  7. All- Thanks for the comments, and I must have missed that one, Rick. NRW- Yeah, I’ve ‘seen’ that too. The university was like that. Salaried, so ‘overtime’ was unpaid, but we supposedly got ‘comp time’. Funny how that NEVER worked out…

  8. Hrm… An interesting idea (that won’t be allowed to happen): Any law that Congress exempts itself from is thereby automatically fully repealed.
