Another YGTBSM Moment…


Via Fox News, we have the DOJ yet again going after CIA agents for two deaths that occurred during interrogations…

The Justice Department is moving forward with criminal investigations relating to CIA interrogations of two detainees who died in the agency’s custody. 

The decision, announced Thursday by Attorney General Eric Holder, is the result of a nearly two-year preliminary review into the Bush-era interrogations by prosecutor John Durham. Though the secretive probe has drawn fierce criticism from Republicans since it began, Holder reiterated Thursday that he will not abandon it. 



In a statement, Holder said the review looked mostly at “whether any unauthorized interrogation techniques were used by CIA interrogators, and if so, whether such techniques could constitute violations of the torture statute or any other applicable statute.”

Outgoing CIA Director Leon Panetta noted in a statement that, of the two cases singled out for investigation Thursday, both “were previously reviewed by career federal prosecutors who subsequently declined prosecution.”   Still, he said “no decision” has been made about bringing criminal charges and pledged CIA cooperation.

Now this is truly setting a bad precedent, going after a previous administration’s personnel, who at the time were “told” what they were doing was legal.  What happens if the next administration decides to do this in a couple of years???

Meanwhile we have Gunwalker and ATF retaliation against an agent (Vince Cefalu) for whistleblowing on Fast and Furious; ICE not processing illegals for deportation and a new “Muslim Civil Rights outreach“;  Executive Order 13575 being signed out; riots up and down the East Coast, HERE, HERE and HERE; in Chicago (and maybe in Peoria depending on whom you believe)…

Hickok 45 gives an excellent commentary on accuracy here, and puts it in plain and simple terms.  The other thing I’ve enjoyed about watching his videos, is that there are no flame wars, put downs, or anything else. 


I had the pleasure of meeting both he and his son at the Lucky Gunner Blog Shoot, and I can tell you they are just plain old good people (and BIG too).  They give Matt and Johnny a run for their money in the size department, but I believe Matt still has them on hand size.  And what I wouldn’t give for THIS range in my backyard… sigh…


Go watch, enjoy and be educated.  It may save you some $$ in the long run…

Here We Go Again???

Okay, got this from a relative down in South Texas, and it TRULY makes me wonder if this administration has totally lost control…


First we have the Gunwalker scandal… and now a defacto plan to ‘dismiss’ ICE deportation cases in Houston and other areas to ‘target’ higher profile cases.


They had them in jail/detention for a REASON, and the lawyers in DC decide to let them go???  WTF???  And, they lied to Congress and the public…

Homeland Security officials misled the public and Congress last year in an effort to downplay a wave of immigration case dismissals in Houston and other cities amid accusations that they had created a “back-door amnesty,” newly released records show.
The records, obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request, include a series of internal memos from Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s chief counsel in Houston dated last August ordering attorneys to review all new, incoming cases and thousands already pending on the immigration court docket and to file paperwork to dismiss any that did not meet the agency’s “top priorities.” (Read the documents provided by the federal officials in response to a FOIA request here.)
Now what the hell did I do with my blood pressure medicine… I’m gonna need it…

Another interesting thing, it seems like the MSM is by and large ignoring this set of ‘issues’ just like they have Gunwalker…

Is it just me, or are the DOJ, DHS, and the whole damn bunch in this administration just determined to do everything in their power to undercut America???

Hog Gun…

Following Frank James’ recommendations/research and our conversation at Pittsburgh, I decided to ‘upgrade’ to a bigger gun for hog hunting…  After seeing the FN SCAR 17 and talking to folks at NRAAM, I decided to bite the bullet (so to speak) and get one.  


I finally got to the range today, and put the first rounds through it, and I’m impressed!!!

I got the ‘baby’ Trijicon optic for it, the TA-11E which has the chevron and BDC for the 308 round.  The top of the chevron is POA at 200 yards, the bottom is 300 yards, 400 yards, etc.

These are the first rounds out of the gun, using just the iron sights at 100 yards…

The first five rounds are lower left, and I (like a dumbass) started adjusting on the sights before the gun really set up and carboned up good.  I cleaned the bore after the first four AND made an adjustment (stoopid) which promptly got me too far to the right. The rounds did walk up as the gun ‘sealed’  and it finally settled about 2 inches high, which is dead on at 200 yards.  I kept screwing with the windage, and finally put it back to zero and left it at that.

I put the TA-11 on, and started sighting it in, and as you can see, with 2 shot groups this is a sub-MOA gun. Again I set it about 2 inches high to be dead on at 200 yards.  


The felt recoil is SIGNIFICANTLY less than any of my other rifles, even less than the M-24 and M-40 both of which weigh over 14 lbs; and this thing only weighs a little over 8lbs with the ACOG on it!  My shoulder is gonna like this one!

I did finally get to put six rounds on a target at 200 yards, so these were a bit rushed, as they wanted to go get their sighting targets, but I’m pretty happy with those, the one on the far right was a called flyer…


Now I can go hog hunting and not feel like I’m under-gunned… 


If I could just afford a good night optic… sigh…

Ammo Review- Remington 9mm…

Lucky Gunner provided me a free box of Remington’s new nickel plated case target ammo in 115 gr 9mm for me to review, so here goes…


I shot three guns with the ammo, a Belgian Browning HP, a Glock 17, and my Kahr P-9 carry pistol.  I did a comparison with my match ammo, 5 rounds each vs 5 rounds of the Remington; all shots were offhand at 10 yards.

And no, the Chrony didn’t work… even though I tested it before I left the house and I KNOW the @#&*) batteries were good… sigh…

Left to right are G17, Kahr, and BHP. The flyers are marked, and the best groups were with the BHP, followed by the Glock, but for what ever reason, the Kahr really didn’t ‘like’ the Remington ammo (from the accuracy perspective).


From here, I moved over and did some Mozambique’s, using all three guns and shooting five round groups of Remington Target, followed by five round groups of Speer Gold Dot carry ammo. I had no failures to eject, feed or fire, and it did feel ‘lighter’ in the recoil department than the Gold Dot, which is 1100fps; so I’d estimate the Remington is around 1000-1050fps, even though Remington claims 1135fps.  


I was able to keep all the rounds in the A and head areas of a standard IDPA target at 10 yards with the remainder of the ammo; so I’d give it a ‘qualified’ recommendation for plinking, fun shooting, etc.  Sadly, I can’t recommend it for true “target” practice, when you’re trying to sight in/shoot VERY accurately.  


Thanks to Lucky Gunner for providing the ammo, and sorry it took me so long to actually get to the range and test it.


And if anybody actually gets a Chrony on this stuff, can you let me know what you see???

Gas prices may be coming down, but they STILL suck!!!

Granted I let it go a bit long between fill ups, but still… 


And in other news…

Two men were arrested late Wednesday night and charged with terrorism and firearms related charges. Abu Khalid Abdul-Latif, a/k/a Joseph Anthony Davis, 33, of Seattle, and Walli Mujahidh, a/k/a Frederick Domingue, Jr., 32, of Los Angeles were arrested after they allegedly took possession of machine guns that they purchased and planned to use in an attack on the Military Entrance Processing Station (“MEPS”) on Seattle’s East Marginal Way.

Unbeknownst to the defendants, the weapons were rendered inoperable and posed no risk to the public. The defendants initially planned an attack on Joint Base Lewis-McChord, but later changed targets. The defendants intended to carry out their attack with both grenades and machine guns.

Gunwalker, DOJ and other tidbits…

I was going to put up a detailed post, but DannytheMan already has one up HERE, that has plenty of detail; and so does PawPaw HERE.  Another piece of the puzzle that came out today at among others CNN is that acting ATF Dir. Melson is going to be thrown over the wall as the first sacrificial lamb to appease the masses…  But what is truly scary is THIS statement:

“Attorney General Eric Holder will meet Tuesday with Andrew Traver, head of the ATF field office in Chicago, about possibly becoming the agency’s acting director, according to senior federal law enforcement sources, who are familiar with the details of the controversy.”


The scary part is Traver was the Administration’s pick to head the ATF, HERE;  the NRA came out (along with many others) HERE, and it fact the recess appointment was NOT made… 


But now???  Looks like he’s going to be put in as the ‘acting’ director, regardless of what people say.  


Another issue is the attitude of the DOJ people who are still refusing to provide any info, documents, testimony and the fact that both the House and Senate have bills pending that will exempt even MORE people from Confirmation Hearings (e.g. any kind of oversight by Congress)


Here is the GOA alert on it.


As we reported to you on Friday, House Republicans got a royal “drop dead” from Assistant Attorney General Ronald Weich when he testified before Rep. Darrell Issa’s committee last week.


Weich had earlier written Congress to deny wrongdoing by ATF in connection with allegations that it was intentionally allowing firearms to fall into the hands of Mexican drug cartels. This Justice Department denial by Weich turned out to be false.


Weich had also refused to respond to repeated congressional demands for documents, and documents which he did provide were frequently nothing more than jet-black pieces of paper.


At the committee hearing, Weich told Chairman Darrell Issa and the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform that he would continue to withhold documents from Congress.


He also refused to answer questions from committee members such as Utah‘s Jason Chaffetz and South Carolina‘s Trey Gowdy.


And, incidentally, Weich refused to provide any information to Iowa Republican Chuck Grassley, on the sole excuse that Grassley was a mere “Republican.” If Republicans wanted to exercise their constitutional oversight functions, intoned Weich, they would have to go begging to liberal anti-gun Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Pat Leahy.


So imagine our surprise that the Senate is poised to take up S. 679 — “bipartisan” legislation which would exempt Weich, his successors, and 203 other similarly situated federal officials from Senate confirmation.


One would think it’s important that federal officials who are responsible for telling Congressmen what documents they can or can’t review should be first approved with the “advice and consent” of the Senate.


But for Republican Senator Sue Collins, it’s apparently no big deal. After all, she is a sponsor of S. 679, the legislation to exempt hundreds of officials from Senate scrutiny.


Gun owners who have watched Weich cover up ATF’s anti-gun policies — policies which have intentionally flooded Mexican gun cartels with guns and resulted in the murder of federal law enforcement officers — realize why it is important that the Senate should be able to block liars like Weich.


One strategy note: We do not expect to defeat the Cover-up Protection Act in the Senate where, sadly, Republican leader Mitch McConnell is a cosponsor. But if we do “respectably” well — say, we get 20 votes or so against the bill — it will give us the strength we need to ask that the bill be killed in the House.


The Senate could vote on this bill as soon as Tuesday.


ACTION: Click here to contact your two U.S. Senators. Demand that they oppose cloture on the Cover-up Protection Act.


When you start adding all this up (or at least when I do), it looks like  this administration is determined to make all the end runs it can on Congress and everybody else (including us)…


In other news, the Georgia Immigration bill is coming under attack from multiple avenues, much like the Arizona bill, but there isn’t much (if any) pressure on Mississippi which passed a similar bill.  More and more states are looking at jumping on that bandwagon, and as MS/GA proves, it’s not just the border states.  

BBQ and Guns, what’s NOT to like…

Did another one of those decompression weekends, went down to Georgia, as they say…


Spent the weekend with Snigs and family, basically doing NOTHING 🙂


Got an interesting tour of a nearby town, including three generations of plantation homes, starting with a one room cabin built in the 1700’s, a four room house built in the late 1700’s, and a brick plantation house built in 1868-69 (luckily the family had just shipped a ship full of cotton to England and the agent there held the money until after the Civil War). They were all furnished with period furniture, some of which actually belonged to the original family! Originally 3100 acres of cotton, that ended with the boll weevil; sadly the town has lost most of the light industry it had, and on a visit to the local gun store the owner told me he will be surprised if he’s still in business in three years…


We are losing small town America one town at a time due to lack of jobs, and with it a (my opinion) better way of life.  Busy all the time is not necessarily better…


Anyhoo… She had BBQ and an old friend and her hubby over for dinner and the friend’s hubby brought a new pistol, a Ruger SP-101 in .327 Magnum!  

Having never seen one in the ‘flesh’ so to speak, I was interested in how it shot.  Of course Snigs drug her Blackhawk out, along with a little Ruger MkIII (heh… just realized it was a ALL Ruger day)!


We were shooting in the back yard at about 10 yards, and I know I’m not gonna piss ANY of those folks off… That target was deader than a doornail 🙂


Oh yeah, the SP-101… Interesting little carry pistol, and the .327 does pack a punch!  It’s a bit short coupled for me (Ruger knuckle AGAIN); but it’s an accurate little pistol especially on SA. Like all Rugers, DA the trigger is at least 12 lbs though.  It works fine for folks with smaller hands though.  


We got chased inside by the rain, so we didn’t put a lot of rounds down range, but it was fun anyway.


Since we were inside, it was time to EAT!  Good pork BBQ, hash (a Southern tradition), and slaw made for a tasty treat; followed up by lemon meringue pie and all washed down with sweet tea.  Guess I can say I got my Southern food fix for a while 🙂


We called it early (before midnight) as I had to get up and drive back to ATL this morning, way too @#&* early…


Which reminds me, they just need to rename I-285 the Atlanta Speedway!  I was doing 70 in a 55, getting passed like I was standing still! At one point I pulled out and sped up to see how fast the limo that passed me was going, and he was doing 90!!! And he wasn’t the only one…


Finally got back to the airport, and was checking in when I saw something that just made me proud-  A soldier was going downrange on orders, so he was pretty loaded down with his various bags and weapons case.  The porters came over and grabbed his bags (obviously he carried his weapons case), and trooped into the airport. Since he was flying on United, I watched as they carried all his stuff to the counter, and when he tried to pay them, not a single one took a penny, all they wanted was a handshake and I heard EVERY one of them tell him thanks and wished him well.  Say what you will, but the average American IS proud of our folks in uniform and do support them in ways large and small…
