If You REALLY Want to Frustrate Yourself…

I met up with Arctic Elf from GBC and his Father-in-law for lunch and a bit of shooting at NRA today.  Good folks, but AE lacks a bit on the navigation around Fairfax 🙂 


I guess I really can’t blame him, since he’s out of NORVA though…


We were actually able to get a lane as soon as we got there, and as usual, started trading pistols and trying them.  Then the FIL decided we needed a ‘competition’ and he brings out one that looks like this…

It was in B&W, but you get the idea… It was one of those printable targets at 5 yards. We were each taking five shots, so I got 6-10… Didn’t do so well, matter of fact, I sucked!!!


When “I” started trying to get ‘that’ accurate, I realized I’d never really shot the Colt at bull’s eyes per se; I’d only been shooting it at IDPA/IPSC/Silhouettes, which have a MUCH larger aim point.  I kinda redeemed myself on 16-20 since those had a bit more vertical error for me to play with…  


I really need to go do the dot drills for a while, and then come back to this one… sigh


Other than that, it was a good day, and Arctic Elf and his FIL made it a better day at the range!  And hopefully we’ll get to do that again (AFTER I practice on that @!#@& target)…

  1. Now that’s what I call a good day!! Shooting at a dart board! I will have to try that one! I’m sure I will be as frustrated as you seem to have been!

  2. I tend to do exactly what you are talking about and shoot defense scenarios and not so much for groups. I really need to get a bench out and shoot from a rest to see how each handgun really groups.

  4. Were you playing cricket or 301, 501 or some other dart game?

    Playing cricket with a .22 like a Ruger Mk II or III would be fun. At 5 yds I might do better with darts though.

  8. I’m looking at that thing and all of a sudden all the concentric rings started rotating in opposite directions! Do they do that when you shoot at them? LOL

  10. I’ve never dropped acid, but if I had, I think that I’d re-trip if I looked hard at that target.

    What ever happened to an old fashioned bull’s eye?
