Shutdown Day 4…

Again today they did jack diddley in Congress today… BO and Reid are staying on their no negotiation stance, and the healthcare signup continues to be a cesspool of suck and fail.  It DOES seem those few who have gotten in are ‘shocked’, shocked I say, at the cost of the premiums…

And there are additional hits to the military-  Cut of ALL AFRTS channels other than the AFN news feed.  No sports, no other programming…

Normandie Cemetary in France is padlocked and closed… On orders from the administration.

The WWII Memorial and others now have the barricades wired together to prevent access.

The administration tried to shut down Mt. Vernon, even though it’s PRIVATELY owned. They claim the parking lots were federal and blocked off the bus turnaround, and parking lots/spots including one spot the THREE parking spaces.

The U.S. military has furloughed as many as 50 Catholic chaplains due to the partial suspension of government services, banning them from celebrating weekend Mass. At least one chaplain was told that if he engaged in any ministry activity, he would be subjected to disciplinary action.

The Archdiocese for the Military Services tells me the military installations impacted are served by non-active-duty priests who were hired as government contractors. As a result of a shortage of active duty Catholic chaplains, the government hires contract priests.

And Proud Hillbilly has one I missed HERE.

In the ‘reaction’ department, Sam’s Clubs nationwide are opening their doors to military personnel without having to buy a membership for the duration of the closure!

If you live near a Sam’s Club and are in the market for bulk groceries, this could be your lucky day. According to Sam’s Club officials all military members will be allowed to shop in the members-only warehouse store for free until the government shutdown ends and the commissaries reopen.

“In appreciation for the service that military personnel provide our members and communities, Sam’s Club locations near military bases will waive membership requirements for military personnel, retirees and their families so they may continue saving on everyday goods and groceries,” club officials said in a statement.

And in the same ol’ category…

ANAHEIM HILLS (CBSLA.com) — A high school principal has apologized for forcing a 16-year-old student to remove her National Rifle Association shirt last month.

Haley Bullwinkle, a sophomore at Canyon High School said she was asked to change or face suspension because her T-shirt, which featured a buck, an American flag, and a hunter’s silhouette, violated the school’s dress code and promoted gun violence.

Shutdown Day 4… — 7 Comments

  1. Astounding how much of this crap is pure theatrics & grandstanding. And kudos to Sam’s Club for doing the right thing.

I keep dreaming about a day when a school will think first, rather than follow a knee-jerk reaction with an apology (because they’re sorry about all the negative publicity garnered by their ham-fisted, zero-thought initial response).

  2. With no election coming up, and the end in sight, Obama’s minions are showing their true prejudices. He, of course, is “monitoring” the situation, i.e., sitting on his ass and sucking his thumb. Think Valarie Jarett is really making the decisions?

  3. Hey Old NFO;

Pure Grandstanding and they want the little people to feel the pain of defying the “annointed one” and his minions. People will forget about this and vote for the democraps in 2014.

  4. I saw this, too.

Andrews AF Base — grocery stores, etc, closed down…. golf course for the O is OPEN.

There is just somethings that the AF will not tolerate.

  5. I’m just waiting for one of the Park Police folks to do something stupid with our Vets at one of the Memorials. Will that be the Straw That Breaks The Camel’s Back?
I’m seriously thinking of offering my services as an EMT for the Honor Flights. Particularly if my supervision will let me have the time off (maybe for Good Behavior).

  6. Rev- Concur on both counts!

WSF- I don’t think ANYBODY is making any decisions…

    Bob- Sadly, you’re probably right…

    CP- Yeah, pathetic…

WN- They’re being ‘told’ to do it, I don’t see them doing it voluntarily… And sooner or later they WILL cross the wrong person(s).
