Digging around in my stuff getting ready to pack up non-essential stuff to move…

And what did I run across but this…IMG_2359

It’s a complete game set I haven’t pulled out in years…ย IMG_2357This is an original version dating to 1984, that we used to play back in the day…

We had one helluva team and won quite a few drinks over the years! ๐Ÿ™‚

And to be perfectly honest, I think the real board games were a lot more fun that playing online…

What games do you have squirreled away???

  1. Firefight. A mostly company level war game between US and Soviet 1960’s equipment. It had a few counters in it for “XMBT” because the M-1 tank hadn’t been fielded yet. I kept it to have something to play against my son with. But then only had one daughter. Now I am keeping it for a possible grandson or two.

  2. we’ve been collecting games.

for the wedding, we were given Risk, Liar’s Dice, and Scrabble (i think it was). we have a couple of newer board games, and a few card games.

we used to have a weekly game night. need to get back in the habit.

  3. Scrabble, Sorry, Dominoes, Trouble, Checkers, Uno – we play a couple times a week. I have many fond memories of playing board games and Canasta on rainy summer days.

  4. Still have an old Risk game from my youth. The box is battered and held together by masking tape, and it hasn’t seen the light of day in years, but it still resides in the back of a closet.

  5. Several editions of Monopoly, Yahtzee (Doctor Who edition!), Trivial Pursuit, and some DVD-based movie trivia game whose name escapes me.

  6. I love board games and passed the competitive nature on to my daughter. We have great fun. The older ones are the most fun. Online games are not nearly as great and never engage the family or friends as much. Where you moving to? Texas?

  7. almost a complete set of classic Avalon Hill games from the 1960-1980. Can’t get anyone to play anymore. D-Day, Stalingrad, Afrika Korps on through to Panzer Blitz and Victory in the Pacfic. Great fun to play. Some took days.

  8. Or what squirrels have you gamed away? ๐Ÿ™‚

You poked a memory about Trivial Pursuit. There may be a blog post in it!
    Thanks!

  9. Stratego, chess and checkers, and a whole bunch of Avalon Hill and Historical Simulation Games.
Panzer Blitz (TWO complete games … for those extended scenarios), Squad-Leader, France ’40, Red Star-White Star, Arab-Israeli Wars.
While doing telecom/computer installs and repair I walked into an office at REDACTED I had to wait while they covered/sanitized “stuff” I shouldn’t see. One item was an unmarked topo wall map. The acetate overlay sheets (God! I’m dating myself.) that contained actionable intel were removed. As I walked by I looked at the map and said “Keeping track of the Russian pull outs?” (This was shortly after the Soviet collapse.) Security Officer went into full paranoid mode as was in his job description. “How could you tell that? When did you see the overlays?!?”
I pointed to some unmarked cities, named them, and said “I’ve gamed The Fulda Gap often enough to know WHERE. The rest is just common sense.” Thankfully he and most of the office staff were also gamers and that was that.

  10. Dominos and Yahtze.

I may have a Monopoly that’s a gazillion years old, too.

  11. All- Thanks! Looks like I’m NOT the only one with stuff squirreled away… ๐Ÿ™‚

    Fargo- Texas is the plan…

    Posted from my iPhone.

  12. You were one of the lucky ones. I was working at a toy store when Trivial Pursuit came out. We couldn’t keep it on the shelf. Around the same time Transformers were very popular and Cabbage Patch dolls were sold on a sort of lottery/will-call system.
