F**kers…

Well, the Dems shut the government down over DACA, and their refusal to fund the wall…

Screen cap from C-SPAN says it all…

If this isn’t a clusterf**k, I don’t know what is. I’m guessing Trump broke it off in Chuckie’s ass Friday, when Chuckie didn’t stop and crow to the TV cameras about the ‘deal’ he’d cut.

But what really pisses me off, is the folks that can LEAST afford to be without paychecks, like the military and LEOs get shafted while the congresscritters, judges, and the President continue to get paid. Reference, HERE.

The ones that LEAST need the money, gah…

If this crap isn’t a poster child for Term Limits and recalls, I don’t know what is. I’d start with recalls on McConnell, Flake, Graham, Lee and Paul, and go from there. Either that or make them change to Dem, because that is what they really are. Had they voted FOR the CR, the shutdown would not have happened.

There is NO reason for any person to do more than two terms in congress, because they stop representing the constituents, and start making sure they will be re-elected, kowtowing to the lobbyists for money, selling their votes for ‘deals’ that benefit them personally, etc.

Of course the WAPO gleefully published THIS in 2016, when then candidate Trump talked about term limits.

Sounds to me like it’s time for the silent majority to step up again!

Kicking the soapbox back in the corner, and looking for my BP meds… Sigh…

  1. A lifetime 12 year limit in congress. No pension. We’ll see who’s really interested in serving their constituents.

  2. There are congressmen (Tim Walberg for one) who are foregoing their paycheck until the Mil get theirs.
And if you don’t mind, I want the opportunity to continue to vote for the good guys.
If my fellow voters are such idiots that they keep putting crap back in, they’ll just put fresh crap in to replace it.
I do however share your frustration and would like to see a fresh playing field where the incumbent does not have an advantage on name recognition alone.

    • ‘vote for the name you know’ – “The Distinguished Gentleman”.

  3. The problem is that each state is an independent nation, with its own laws, military, and government. The Congressmen are the duly elected representatives of those states. For the Federal government to set term limits would be equivalent to disenfranchising the states by rejecting their representatives.

So, you set term limits, which let you reject a representative due to amount of time served. What’s next? You’re going to start rejecting them for not being the right color, or sex, or “gender”, or political party? Once you start allowing the Fed to determine who is an acceptable representative, they’re going to use it as a club. Guaranteed.

Yes, I think term limits are an excellent idea, but that’s something that should be campaigned for and implemented at the county or state level, not imposed from above by the Fed.

    • I agree that each state SHOULD establish their own laws regarding term limits. However, there was a Supreme Court decision several years ago (too lazy to look up the case citation) that shot down state imposition of term limits for congress critters. Thus a constitutional amendment is required. Highly unlikely as congress will not vote to end their gravy train, and enough blue states will not support it due to statists being statists. Yeah it sucks, but short of pitchforks, tar and feathers, I don’t see a solution.

  4. Jim- Agreed!

    WSF- One hopes!!!

Ed- Two out of 545? Why not all 545… sigh…

TRX- How else do we break the power-and-corruption cycle? Term limits is the only ‘legal’ way I can think of. The states won’t do it, that has already been overturned, see the link above. It would take a Constitutional Convention to actually change it.

    ERJ- Yea! 🙂

BP- That it does. USAA is apparently gearing up to give payday loans at 0% interest if this goes into February.

  5. Once again around the track.

Tip O’Neal said it but it’s true, “All politics is local.”

Your representative in the house represents your district and no other. Therefore, every two years, your neighbors in your district can hire or fire him – and nobody else has a say.

I can’t stand the sight of Nancy Pelosi, but the only way I can vote against her is if I move to San Francisco. That ain’t happening! But the people who live in her district have the same right as I have to vote in whomever they please.

“Let us hope enough voters remember this at the mid term elections. If not, their opponents will undoubtedly remind them.”

So, I guess I’m supposed to vote for the Democrat then. That’ll sure teach em!

It so happens I *like* my representative, and until a majority of my district neighbors decide he needs to go, everyone else can just butt out.

Senators, well, that’s on a state level but the principle is the same.

  6. McConnell voted against it so that he could bring it back to the floor later.

And I’d seriously support an amendment that adds term limits.

In the meantime, I’m sure the Army and Navy emergency relief charities could use donations. I imagine that a lot of military families will be turning to them for help if this goes on until the end of the month.

  7. I am on the fence about term limits. Sure, there are a lot of corrupt congresscritters who need to be hung, I mean, sent home packing, but those creatures usually represent political districts where no change will occur no matter what happens. Do you seriously think that if Pelosi kicks the bucket right now that her replacement won’t be some political clone of hers?

For political corruption spanning generations, just look at Chicago. One politician gets jailed, is immediately replaced by another pol who walks, talks, votes, accepts payola just like the jailbird.

And, yes, there are long-term serving Representatives and Senators who are honest, who actually work for the common good. I was represented for years by Cliff Stearns, who, overall, was a good guy. Call his office for help regarding the fed gov, if he didn’t help directly his office would actually send you to whomever could help.

As to USAA, except for some minor kerfuffles, they seem to be a great organization. I do hope they can do 0% payday loans, and make a big-assed commercial blasting the ass-hats who caused this.

And I am so happy that the current administration seems to be acting like adults about this, trying to keep as much of the national parks and monuments open as much as possible, unlike the previous administration of that petulant child. (My wife, whom I adore, has decreed that that ‘child’s’ name shall not be used in our house. Which I heartily agree. So we have all sorts of names for that person and it’s significant other. I know, childish on my part, but…)

    • You’re not alone. I’d never heard MomRed use a derogatory name for a sitting president until the previous administration. She even put a “I love my country, I fear my government” sticker on her car (!). That’s wild behavior for MomRed.

    • exactly. It’s the voters fault.
It seems my district will always be represented by a Dingle regardless of the first name.

  8. How about instead of term limits, we say seniority doesn’t matter. Committee chairs and plush gigs given on a rotation, never more than a year and not back to your state for twenty years. Make them want to go home. Btw, that’s the solution to immigration…if you can’t find a job because your employer faces a thousand dollar a day find per illegal employee with no plea bargains, charged means tried in court, then you will go home and not come back.

  9. Seeing that picture with the Schumer quote makes me think Democrat voters are going to be really upset when they find out that their politicians are hypocrites.

But not really. It’s probably a plus in their minds.

  10. Way back in the dark ages when I lived in WA (the state) there was a referendum to initiate term limits – a certain sitting CONgres critter said he would sue the state if it passed, it didn’t but it po’d enough of his constituents that they voted him out. Moral of the story is, if they don’t do the will of the people, they just might get canned. Or is that caned?

  11. The really good thing about this is that The Dems are FOR illegal immigration, and Trump was elected by those of us who are AGAINST it. They are going to make us SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
    MADDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD.

  12. All- Thanks for the comments, and good point about the Military relief organizations!

    Posted from my iPhone.

  13. Chuckles Schumer walked PAST a mic and camera?!?
That’s a sure sign of the apocalypse.

  14. “There is NO reason for any person to do more than two terms in congress…”

    Wrong.

“No one shall serve more than 5 terms, or portions thereof, in elected office in the United States, no more than two terms, or portion thereof, of which shall be in the same office; such service will constitute permanent disqualification for any remuneration, compensation, or receipt, of payment or reward from a government in the United States, with the exceptions of compensation for service in the elected office and salary, benefit and retirement commensurate with rank in the United States Armed Forces; additionally, no one shall receive remuneration, payment or reward, from any government in the United State for a period longer than 18 years, with the exception of salary, benefit and retirement commensurate with rank in the United States Armed Forces.”

We have a severe problem with lifetime politicians: dog catcher to school board to county council to state representative to Congress to Senate, with possible side trips to postions in a state or federal executive branch. That chain needs to be broken, as do the 30-35 year entrenched bureaucrats. Pick which 5 elected positions you wish to pursue, choose wisely because you have only 5, and once sworn in to the first one your days of receiving a dime from any government inside the U.S. are over, so you’ll need a real job to return to.
