Edit- I ‘was’ going to post this Sunday and forgot to schedule it…
So, yesterday was a ‘celebration’ for Peter and Dot’s anniversary this week. Since I was cooking, I hit up our local butcher shop to see what looked good.
These NY strips looked good, so I grabbed enough to make up the difference with what Jonna had brought.
Steak, baked potatoes, steamed broccoli, and a salad was the plan…
Oh, and bearnaise sauce for the steaks. Little did I know…
And we had a cake for them.
I got started on the steaks as everybody was chowing down on the appetizers when I realized I couldn’t be in three places at once (yet again). So I drafted Ian and Sanford to help with the inside stuff while I did the steaks.
Managed to get everything ready at the same time and the feed was on! As usual, the girls take their table and leave us guys on the other table. I really need to record the cacophony of two sets of conversation in the same room sometime…LOL
Oh yeah, that bearnaise sauce? I think I was the only one that actually put it over my steak! Everybody else used it for the broccoli or the potatoes! Sigh…
So, as usual, the guys finished first, and we all move into the kitchen and den when a loud peal of laughter comes from the living room. I swear, it stopped every guy and we all turned a looked toward the living room! The girls finally joined us and we had the cake, and refills for anybody that needed them.
So, we start cleaning up and making the to-go plates for those who were working, and that’s when I found the salad that I’d made and forgot to set out! (#@%#@%~!!)
But a good time was had, and I got harassed about forgetting things…
Well, salad and saltines – crackers – Trisquits goes well together. Most of holiday family meals have something forgotten in refrigerator until meal is done.
I hope everyone had a great time.
You suffered just a little “oldtimers” disease with that salad.
Those steaks looked really good. Seems like a good time was had by all.
Hey Old NFO;
Those steaks look good and Tell Peter and Dorothy “Happy Anniversary!!!
There was always a pan of biscuits in the oven during the meal during holidays. It was so regular, we just considered it a burnt offering. You guys sound like a hoot.
Even raw, those steaks look darn good.
It was a wonderful supper, and an equally wonderful surprise anniversary celebration. Thanks muchly!
jrg- They did! And the salad ‘went away’… LOL
Bill- Sigh…yep
Bob- Will do!
STxAR- I remember that! Especially my grandmothers on both sides!!!
Tuvela- They were even better cooked!!! And I love our little local butcher shop!
Peter- Y’all are more than welcome!
Thank you so much for the surprise celebration!
Yeah, the conversational drift is amazing, sometimes. I do wish I could be at both tables at once. As for the salad, it’s been rounding out my lunch at work, which is awesome, thank you.
Dot- Thank you! And yes, ‘drift’ is a good word for the convos… LOL
