MD voted in new gun laws starting in October, but…

Maryland is experiencing a run on guns before some of the toughest firearms laws in the nation take effect next month, testing the limits of state police to process the tens of thousands of additional applications being submitted.
State Police say that through Aug. 31 they had received 85,141 gun-purchase applications this year. For all of last year, police received 70,099 applications and in 2011 they received 46,339 applications.

Sgt. Black said officials have processed 46,942 of this year’s applications. He said officials have doubled staffing numbers as officers work furiously to process the applications.
In August 2012, 38 employees were assigned to conduct background checks, but this year 73 employees are doing that work. Sgt. Black said 60 temporary staffers are also rotating hours.
This is interesting, since we’ve heard ‘unofficially’ there were actually only FIVE people actually processing permits full time in January.

And yet another dealer is moving out of state, but others are shutting down. Legally in MD if there is nothing back within 7 days, the dealer can release the gun to the individual, but a lot of dealers are apparently afraid to do so. Last estimates were right around 100 days to get approval. So the real question is, if you ‘bought’ the gun before October, but your approval doesn’t come back until November, can you still get the gun???
I have no clue, and there seems to be a lot of obfuscation on the ‘real’ answer to that question…
And it’s NOT just guns, it’s also FERTILIZER!!!
Homeowners and Other Residential Users
Beginning October 1, 2013, homeowners and do-it-yourselfers will be required to follow University of Maryland recommendations when fertilizing lawns. Mandatory restrictions, similar to those imposed for lawn care professionals, apply:
- Homeowners must follow University of Maryland fertilizer recommendations when applying nitrogen to lawns.
- A single application may not exceed 0.9 pound total nitrogen per 1,000 square feet and 0.7 pound of soluble nitrogen per 1,000 square feet.
- Homeowners are prohibited from applying fertilizer to sidewalks, driveways or other impervious surfaces. Any product that lands on these surfaces must be swept back onto lawns.

Penalties
A county, municipality or MDA may enforce these requirements for homeowners. This law pre-empts any existing local ordinances.

One wonders if all fertilizer purchases will now be recorded and turned into the authorities in order to be compared to you land size. buy to much……get knock on door I can picture it now…..
