Gee, I ‘Wonder’ who I believe…

It appears the Prez is too busy trying to mitigate the feud between the Idol hosts to get his facts right…

From CNS News-

President Barack Obama said on Thursday that “we got back every dime we used to rescue the financial system.”
According to the Congressional Budget Office, however, the government will lose about $24 billion on the bailout.
“We got back every dime we used to rescue the financial system, but we also passed a historic law to end taxpayer-funded Wall Street bailouts for good,” Obama said in Miami Thursday.
The Congressional Budget Office–based on figures from Obama’s own Office of Management and Budget—gives a different assessment.
“The cost to the federal government of the TARP’s transactions (also referred to as the subsidy cost), including grants for mortgage programs that have not yet been made, will amount to $24 billion,” said the CBO report, which was released on the same day Obama spoke.

The hole just keeps getting deeper, and the threats are rising…

Paw has links HERE to all the riot threats.  All I can say is load up extra mags, print pics of the perps and be ready to go to town…

Can you imagine??? Some Pub governor getting Streisand’s and Brolin’s seats???

LOL…

Slow weekend in Chi-Town…

Looks like it was a ‘quiet’ weekend in Chi-town…

ONLY 5 killed…

Aa 73-year-old man, a 34-year-old man getting ready to celebrate his brother’s birthday, and a 20-year-old woman in a “domestic” incident, and two teenagers (one 17, the other 18) on their way to meet a girl…

And the ‘other’ shootings…

• About 7:04 a.m., a 24-year-old man was shot in the knee near the intersection of North and Central Park avenues in the Logan Square neighborhood on the Northwest Side.

• A 31-year-old man was shot at 5:30 a.m. at his home in the 0-100 block of West 112th Street in the Roseland neighborhood on the South Side.

• About 5 a.m., a male walked into Holy Cross Hospital with a gunshot wound to the arm, someone shot him in the 6400 block of South Albany Avenue in the Marquette Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

• A man was shot about 3:30 a.m. in the 1700 block of South Wolcott Avenue in the Heart of Chicago neighborhood on the South Side.

• A male was shot about 3:25 a.m. in the 2800 block of North Mason Avenue in the Belmont Central neighborhood on the Northwest Side.

• Two men were hospitalized after someone shot at them about 2:30 a.m. on the 600 block of North Central Avenue in the South Austin neighborhood on the West Side.

• At about 2:20 a.m., a male was shot in the left shoulder while inside a vehicle in the 4800 block of West Chicago Avenue in South Austin.

• At about 1:30 a.m., a 25-year-old man was approached by two males and shot on the 1100 block of North Monticello Avenue in the Humboldt Park neighborhood on the West Side.

• At about 1 a.m. in the 1600 block of South Lawndale Avenue in the Lawndale neighborhood on the South Side, a 20-year-old man was shot in the hand after someone approached him and started hitting him. The 20-year-old tried to run and heard a gunshot, and was shot in the hand.

• Two people in a van were shot about 12:30 a.m. today in Rogers Park and one of them returned fire, hitting their 21-year-old attacker, police said. The 21-year-old first approached the van on foot near Morse and Greenview avenues and opened fire, police said. Two men inside the van were struck, and one of them shot back, hitting the first shooter in the face and neck.

So one can only wonder why all these law abiding gun owners were out shooting up the neighborhoo…

Oh wait, Rahmbo would NEVER let illegal guns be used on the streets would he???

After all, this is the city with the toughest gun laws in the US, right???

And yet they want to take OUR guns away…

How about enforcing the @#^$@* laws and getting after the CRIMINALS???

A Soldier’s Deck of Cards…

I’d actually seen this performed a number of years ago at a conference in Las Vegas, but NOT with the ending this young gent does…

As I’ve heard more than once, there is no such thing as an atheist in a foxhole…

FWIW, I’m positive this administration would have a hissy fit if someone actually did this in theater…

Bailout above Mach…

Felix Baugartner is attempting to be the first man to purposfully exeed Mach 1 without an airplane and parachute safely to the ground.

It can be watched live HERE.

He will exceed Capt Joe Kittinger’s record of 102,800 feet on August 16, 1960. Capt Kittinger’s speed was ‘only’ 614 mph… It took over 4 minutes for him to freefall to 10,000 feet.

But he won’t be the first to bailout at more than Mach 1…

Bill Weaver did that (not on purpose) Jan 25, 1966 after an SR-71 came apart around him at Mach 3+.

From his recollections-

On the planned test profile, we entered a programmed 35-deg. bank turn to the right. An immediate unstart occurred on the right engine, forcing the aircraft to roll further right and start to pitch up. I jammed the control stick as far left and forward as it would go. No response. I instantly knew we were in for a wild ride.

I attempted to tell Jim what was happening and to stay with the airplane until we reached a lower speed and altitude. I didn’t think the chances of surviving an ejection at Mach 3.18 and 78,800 ft. were very good. However, g-forces built up so rapidly that my words came out garbled and unintelligible, as confirmed later by the cockpit voice recorder.

The cumulative effects of system malfunctions, reduced longitudinal stability, increased angle-of-attack in the turn, supersonic speed, high altitude and other factors imposed forces on the airframe that exceeded flight control authority and the Stability Augmentation System’s ability to restore control.

Everything seemed to unfold in slow motion. I learned later the time from event onset to catastrophic departure from controlled flight was only 2-3 sec. Still trying to communicate with Jim, I blacked out, succumbing to extremely high g-forces. The SR-71 then literally disintegrated around us. From that point, I was just along for the ride.

My next recollection was a hazy thought that I was having a bad dream. Maybe I’ll wake up and get out of this mess, I mused. Gradually regaining consciousness, I realized this was no dream; it had really happened. That also was disturbing, because I could not have survived what had just happened. Therefore, I must be dead. Since I didn’t feel bad–just a detached sense of euphoria–I decided being dead wasn’t so bad after all. AS FULL AWARENESS took hold, I realized I was not dead, but had somehow separated from the airplane. I had no idea how this could have happened; I hadn’t initiated an ejection. The sound of rushing air and what sounded like straps flapping in the wind confirmed I was falling, but I couldn’t see anything. My pressure suit’s face plate had frozen over and I was staring at a layer of ice.

The pressure suit was inflated, so I knew an emergency oxygen cylinder in the seat kit attached to my parachute harness was functioning. It not only supplied breathing oxygen, but also pressurized the suit, preventing my blood from boiling at extremely high altitudes. I didn’t appreciate it at the time, but the suit’s pressurization had also provided physical protection from intense buffeting and g-forces. That inflated suit had become my own escape capsule.

My next concern was about stability and tumbling. Air density at high altitude is insufficient to resist a body’s tumbling motions, and centrifugal forces high enough to cause physical injury could develop quickly. For that reason, the SR-71′s parachute system was designed to automatically deploy a small-diameter stabilizing chute shortly after ejection and seat separation. Since I had not intentionally activated the ejection system–and assuming all automatic functions depended on a proper ejection sequence–it occurred to me the stabilizing chute may not have deployed.

You can read the full recollection HERE.

Here’s hoping Mr. Baumgartner succeeds, we need more people like him who are willing to push the limits!

Edit- At 1910Z he jumped from 128,000 feet and got to 725Mph in free fall!

CONGRATULATIONS Mr. Baumgartner!!!

Seriously, thanks to all who have served, and to those who continue to serve today.  Without those men and women serving today, this country would not be as safe as it is!!!

Behind the scenes…

About 10 minutes of behind the scenes with the Budweiser Clydesdale Operation, and the training that goes into their famous commercials!

Those trainers get a LOT of exercise, and as we all know put out some ‘memorable’ commercials!

To Bud, thanks for the memories!!!

A Funny…

I’m tired of all the negative stuff, so a funny for your Saturday!

While on a road trip, an elderly couple stopped at a roadside restaurant for lunch. After finishing their meal, they left the Restaurant, and resumed their trip.

When leaving, the elderly woman unknowingly left her glasses on the table, and she didn’t miss them until they had been driving for about forty minutes.

By then, to add to the aggravation, they had to travel quite a distance before they could find a place to turn around, in order to return to the restaurant to retrieve her glasses.

All the way back, the elderly husband became the classic grouchy old man. He fussed and complained, and scolded his wife relentlessly during the entire return drive. The more he chided her, the more agitated he became. He

Just wouldn’t let up for a single minute.

To her relief, they finally arrived at the restaurant. As the woman got out of the car, and hurried inside to retrieve her glasses, the old geezer yelled to her, “While you’re in there, you might as well get my hat and the credit card.”

So THIS is what I have to look forward to???

Sigh…

Sorry about the format problems… Hard to post from an iPhone…
