Down Memory Lane…

This video is from 1988, a friend of mine was flying the bird during this flight demo at the airshow.  The high speed pass is right at 400 kts, and the low speed pass is 120 kts, and the opening climb is at 6000 feet per minute!  FUN!!!

Sadly they cut off the end of the tape where the P-3 turned in, bowed to the crowd, then backed into it’s parking space…  Let’s see one of the hot shot fighter pilots do THAT! 🙂

Oh yeah, the powers that be only let him shut down 2 engines, they’d actually practiced shutting down three for that one pass…

WWP "Spin", too little, too late…

From the WWP Facebook page HERE

Regarding the question of donations and events, we do permit fundraisers that are shooting- and gun-related, such as gun raffles, shooting competitions, etc., and we’re incredibly appreciative of those who are willing to give their time to host or participate in an event. Likewise, we gratefully accept donations from companies and individuals connected with the gun industry.

As indicated above, we know that hunting and shooting sporting events can be very therapeutic for many of the Wounded Warriors we serve, and we’re happy to work with the community to make these types of events available to our Alumni. Hunting and shooting sport enthusiasts are an incredibly supportive and generous community, and we’ve been honored by how often folks have opened their land and homes, and volunteered their time to make these types of events possible for our Alumni. We’re so sorry if it seemed that we didn’t appreciate that support with our confusing communication of a business decision. It certainly wasn’t our intention!

I hope this post provides some clarity and helps answer some questions. We welcome the opportunity to have a warrior on Gun Talk Radio to discuss how hunting or events of the like have supported their recovery. We responded too quickly to his request and should have delved a bit deeper.

Note the “WE PERMIT”… (underline/italic mine)

Well, too bad, so sad, but you’ve been outed for what your group really believes, and there is no stuffing that genie back in the bottle…

Knowing THAT Guy…

Keads post HERE reminded me of a couple of funny car parts stories…

The first took place in probably 1967 or 68.  My Grandpa was a mechanic for 50+ years, and even after retirement had a little one horse garage attached to the house.  One Saturday,  this Jag 120 comes spitting/sputtering into the driveway, and this guy hops out wanting to use the phone.

Grandpa asked him what was wrong, and the guy is pissed about the car not running right.

Grandpa says he’ll take a look at it, and promptly opens the hood, takes one whiff and tells the guy his carbs are screwed up.  Turns out the guy is from Dallas, and needs to get back there, and he’s NOT happy.

Grandpa tells him he can probably fix it, the guy dubiously agrees, and Grandpa goes and gets a set of tools, pulls both side draft SU carbs, takes them in and promptly disassembles both of them.  The guy goes nuts, saying he’ll never get them back together!!!

Grandpa just looks at the guy, and he goes back and sits in his car, while Grandpa unlocks a tool chest and pulls out  two complete rebuild kits and metering rods for an SU!!!

He even had the dashpot oil!  He rebuilt both carbs in about 20 minutes with the correct metering rods, re-aligned the throttle rods, and put them back on the car in under an hour.  The car purred like a kitten and the guy was amazed!  He was almost trembling when he asked Grandpa how much he owed, and I seem to remember Grandpa saying $25.  The guy about fell out!!! He’d apparently paid over $100 two weeks prior to fix the carbs!

The second story took place in 1995 on the Hot Rod Power Tour.   A few of us jumped on one leg of the tour down through NC/SC.

One of the cars on that leg was a 1939 Packard, and at the SC stop the driver limped in with a bad upper ball joint…

He was panicked, as he didn’t think there was any way to get it fixed without a LONG truck ride back to Virginia.  One of the volunteers said he knew a guy, and don’t do anything till he got back.  About a half hour later, he comes back and behind him is a beat up old 1953 3/4 Chevy pickup. Out climbs an old guy in bib overalls, a gimme hat and a cigar…

He walks over, kicks the tire, and says nope you need BOTH ball joints, gets down on his knees and says, AND tie rod ends too…

The driver is not happy to hear that either.  The old guy says gimme a little bit, gets in his truck and leaves.  About an hour later he’s back; drags out a jack, jack stands, a BIG hammer and a torch.

The driver’s now going snake s**t, “What are you doing?” etc…

The old guy takes his cigar out, spits, and says in a typical SC drawl, “Well, you DO want it fixed, right?”

The driver wants to know HOW he’s going to fix it, the old guy says with the parts in the truck, looking at the guy like he’s an idiot.  Of course the driver wants to know HOW does he know the parts will fit, and the old guy says, “Well, they’re for a 1939 Packard, isn’t that what this IS?”

He proceeded to replace the ball joints, the tie rod ends, and re-align the front wheels with a string, didn’t overcharge the driver, got in his truck and left…

I asked the volunteer how he’d pulled it off, and he said, “Well, I know that ol boy and he works on a LOT of classic cars and I figured if anybody had the parts he would, and he did…

Yep, knowing THAT guy helps… 🙂

YGTBSM!!!

Go read THIS at An Ordinary Texan… You will NOT believe it…

Wounded Warrior Project rejects gun-owners, gun-dealers, gun-manufacturers.

Talk about hypocrisy…  I think we need to find another group to support.  Just sayin…

Found one- Soldier’s Angels!

Raffle for Tam- Prize Packages…

Okay, these are the sub-packages that are being done through THIS raffle as NFO (A-H).

In order to get ‘some’ cat herding going here, we’ve coordinated between all the raffles to make sure folks get chances they want in the various raffles…

Let me get the yada, yada out of the way up front…

“To participate in this fundraiser, simply make a donation to Tam’s tipjar. Forward the e-mail receipt you get to Jennifer at jennifer (at) injennifershead dot com with the code or codes of the packages you want in the subject line.  IF YOU HAVE ALREADY DONATED AND ARE PARTICIPATING, YOU DO NOT NEED TO RESUBMIT YOUR INFORMATION.”

e.g. for THIS set of packages you would put NFO in the subject line; rather than Diamondback.

And these are the packages…

A: Diamondback and custom holster, Kathy Jackson Book

B: ISSC .22 Trainer (Glock style) , Kathy Jackson Book

C: Ruger P94, mags, shoulder holster, Kathy Jackson Book

And the Holster is pictured HERE

NOT the exact necklace, she’s designing a new one just for this.

Many thanks to those who donated additional items to this raffle, and more thanks to those who’ve made donations to help Tam out! For those international donations, we’ll figure out something if you are the winner!

Jay G is the pimpmaster for all the raffles, so please hit his site for updates to all the raffles ongoing.

Our intent is to hold the drawings for these packages on Thanksgiving, and I will post a list of the names drawn the next day. We will then contact the names in order of their draw to have them select the package they wish to receive.

What’s happening here and the other raffles shows just how special she is to us, and what CAN be done in our little corner of the Intarwebz…

Raffle for Tam update…

As promised, here are pics of the Colt Diamondback .38 special serno Dxx810.

Again, this is a SHOOTER, not a safe queen. It does have the adjustable rear target sight. It does show some muzzle wear and has a target crowned barrel.  There is also a dent in the rib just forward of the frame.  This pistol was tuned up by Cylinder and Slide earlier this year.  I’d say it is about a 85-90% gun.

You can see the ‘dent’ in the rib here, it doesn’t affect sight line or shooting.

We will be doing a conference call tonight to put all the packages together that will be the other options in THIS raffle pool.

Right now, thanks to contributions from a number of folks, we’re looking at possibly 4 or 5 different packages.

Remember, we are only one of the pools, please hit Jay G or Peter for the links to other packages; and for those international entries, if your name is drawn, we WILL work with you to make sure you can actually get what you’ve won.

Again thanks to ALL who’ve contributed/donated/sent well wishes…

This is one hellva community, and I’m damn proud to be a member of it!!!

Back when ‘we’ were kids in the 50s…

I have no idea who put this together, but it is wonderfully done!!

Long ago and far away, in a land that time forgot,
Before the days of Dylan , or the dawn of Camelot.
There lived a race of innocents, and they were you and me,

For Ike was in the White House in that land where we were born,
Where navels were for oranges, and Peyton Place was porn.

We longed for love and romance, and waited for our Prince,
Eddie Fisher married Liz, and no one’s seen him since.

We danced to ‘Little Darlin,’ and sang to ‘Stagger Lee’
And cried for Buddy Holly in the Land That Made Me, Me.

Only girls wore earrings then, and 3 was one too many,
And only boys wore flat-top cuts, except for Jean McKinney.

And only in our wildest dreams did we expect to see
A boy named George with Lipstick, in the Land That Made Me, Me.

We fell for Frankie Avalon, Annette was oh, so nice,
And when they made a movie, they never made it twice..

We didn’t have a Star Trek Five, or Psycho Two and Three,
Or Rocky-Rambo Twenty in the Land That Made Me, Me.

Miss Kitty had a heart of gold, and Chester had a limp,
And Reagan was a Democrat whose co-star was a chimp.

We had a Mr. Wizard, but not a Mr. T,
And Oprah couldn’t talk yet, in the Land That Made Me, Me.

We had our share of heroes, we never thought they’d go,
At least not Bobby Darin, or Marilyn Monroe.

For youth was still eternal, and life was yet to be,
And Elvis was forever in the Land That Made Me, Me.

We’d never seen the rock band that was Grateful to be Dead,
And Airplanes weren’t named Jefferson , and Zeppelins were not Led.

And Beatles lived in gardens then, and Monkees lived in trees,
Madonna was Mary in the Land That Made Me, Me.

We’d never heard of microwaves, or telephones in cars,
And babies might be bottle-fed, but they were not grown in jars.

And pumping iron got wrinkles out, and ‘gay’ meant fancy-free,
And dorms were never co-Ed in the Land That Made Me, Me.

We hadn’t seen enough of jets to talk about the lag,
And microchips were what was left at the bottom of the bag.

And hardware was a box of nails, and bytes came from a flea,
And rocket ships were fiction in the Land That Made Me, Me.

T-Birds came with portholes, and side shows came with freaks,
And bathing suits came big enough to cover both your cheeks.

And Coke came just in bottles, and skirts below the knee,
And Castro came to power near the Land That Made Me, Me.

We had no Crest with Fluoride, we had no Hill Street Blues,
We had no patterned pantyhose or Lipton herbal tea

Or prime-time ads for those dysfunctions in the Land That Made Me, Me.

There were no golden arches, no Perrier to chill,
And fish were not called Wanda, and cats were not called Bill

And middle-aged was 35 and old was forty-three,
And ancient were our parents in the Land That Made Me, Me.

But all things have a season, or so we’ve heard them say,
And now instead of Maybelline we swear by Retin-A.
They send us invitations to join AARP,
We’ve come a long way, baby, from the Land That Made Me, Me.

So now we face a brave new world in slightly larger jeans,
And wonder why they’re using smaller print in magazines.
And we tell our children’s children of the way it used to be,
Long ago and far away in the Land That Made Me, Me…

Tam Raffle Update…

Quick update as I get ready to head to the airport.  At least another 20 donations thus far last night and this morning. And I’m stupid… Carteach is donating an ISSC .22 (Glock like) trainer, NOT a Glock 22… That’s on me for the error.  And John had graciously added a Ruger P94 plus mags and holster to the mix, and we also have PMAGS and another knife being added to the mix.  Kathy Jackson is also putting in some of her books, and there’s probably somebody else I’m forgetting.

For all that have emailed me confirmations, I’m NOT ignoring y’all, its just that we’ve got that many, and trying to answer, get them in spreadsheet, collate etc. is whipping our butts right now.  We are going to do a mail merge, confirmation email back to everyone later this week confirming the amount, the raffle and/or raffles you want to participate in.

Again, THANK YOU!!!  Can’t say that often enough!!!

Veterans Day…

As you enjoy your holiday please take a moment to reflect on the tremendous sacrifices that Sailors, Marines, Soldiers, and Airmen have made for our country and freedoms – especially those that have endured life-changing injuries or lost their lives.

Without them, we would not have the Country we do…

Update for Tam’s Raffle…

Update #3, as of 1630 CST, donations have exceeded $2850 and we have three more prizes, Jack (an engraver) has donated either engraving for the Hand Cannon or Knife; we also have a $100 gift certificate from Amazon, and a Sightmark Tactical Red Dot.

We will get an email response out to those who have donated later this week to confirm we have received your donation and confirm which raffle or raffles you wish to participate in.

Again, all I can say is thank you for your support.
r,
Old NFO

Edit- McThag is also auctioning off a Spikes Tactical lower to the highest bidder to benefit Tam-  Link is HERE.  Angus is good folks, and digging deep to put this up!

Edit 2- Brigid is donating a Gerber Applegate Fairbairn Combat Folding Knife.
