Grrrr…

Great gesture, but…

Despite the Democrats’ government shutdown, our brave troops will be receiving a paycheck, thanks to an anonymous but extremely generous billionaire.

President Donald Trump identified the mystery man only as a “friend of mine” who did not wish to receive recognition for his actions. The $130 million donation will allow our military to keep paying the bills amidst the Schumer Shutdown. Unlike the leech Democrat congressmen who will continue to be wealthy regardless of how long they drag out the shutdown, our military put everything on the line for the paychecks, which could not have come without the billionaire’s generosity.

Trump described his conversation with the anonymous donor, “He called us the other day and said, ‘I’d like to contribute any shortfall you have because of the Democrat shutdown… because I love the military and I love the country.”

Full article, HERE from PJ media.

While this is deserving of kudos to that person, sadly, it’s not that easy. The money will go to the ‘general fund’, not specifically to the military unless it is authorized by… yes… congresscritters. Dammit…

Much as I hate to say it, I don’t see this happening.

And even worse, apparently SNAP/EBT cards will be funded for November or anymore until the shutdown ends, HERE. So we ‘may’ get an answer as to how long it will take for the major cities to start rioting over food…

Sigh…

So far…

We’ve dodged the weather bullets…

10 24

So far, the last two days, the weather has ‘split’ and gone around us. And I’m NOT complaining…

Well, other than I’m gonna have to mow again…grrrr

This has been a strange summer. Wetter than average, with lower temps. And we’re supposedly slipping into a La Nina weather pattern.

But the Farmer’s Almanac is calling for a wet/cold winter for us. The last time we had this stuff was 2015, so we’re a bit ‘off’ on the seven year cycle.

But we don’t really have a choice, do we? We just have to get through the year and the weather…

I just hope we don’t get any more tornadoes this year.

Stopping the leakage…

Yet another step the Pentagon is taking… maybe a step too far?

Leaders at the Pentagon have significantly altered how military officials will speak with Congress after a pair of new memos issued last week.

In an Oct. 15 memo, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and his deputy, Steve Feinberg, ordered Pentagon officials — including the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff — to obtain permission from the department’s main legislative affairs office before they have any communication with Capitol Hill.

Full article, HERE from Military Times.

The Pentagon is notorious for leaks… Going back further than the Pentagon Papers, but the leaks have been there. The number of classified programs that have been ‘leaked’ either intentionally or unintentionally is horrific.

Some of those leaks ‘might’ have been done to salvage other programs that sponsors didn’t want to lose, but I don’t know.

Last week the Pentagon limited the media’s ability to wonder around at will, which is a good start as far as I’m concerned. I personally saw them sniffing around areas I knew they didn’t have access to, trying to get a ‘quote’ from an ‘unnamed source’… sigh

Maybe they can also take a look at acquisition, and fix that CF while they are at it. THAT alone would save billions!!! Teaming ‘requirements’, coddling congresscritters programs, etc. etc…

But I do hope they get the military paid the end of the month. What is being done to them in unconscionable, and the blame falls squarely on the Dems for playing political games with the CR.

Done!!!

Sixteen stories edited, approved, and rough formatting done for the benefit anthology for the Tom Burnett Library!

Yes, I’m a week late on getting it done, no excuses, but it’s over the fence to the people who are doing the cover, final formatting, and publishing!

So hopefully, it will be published by the end of October! So far, our benefit anthologies have raised a little over $4000 for the library for their kids programs, and purchase of some supplies! I’m happy as hell about that.

And many thanks to the authors who’ve donated their stories to the library!

Now I can finally get back to writing my stuff…

Oh, and I didn’t put ‘my’ story in the anthology, because the others were better than mine! LOL…

Interesting…

Talk about ‘inside knowledge’…

A grand jury indicted former FBI Director James Comey in September on charges of making false statements to Congress and obstructing a congressional proceeding. Comey pleaded not guilty on October 8.

Comey’s legal troubles are just beginning, however, as federal prosecutors are seeking to remove Comey defense attorney Patrick Fitzgerald from his case, citing a conflict of interest.

Full article, HERE from Town Hall.

Since Fitzgerald was the so called ‘middleman’ getting information from Comey to the law professor, he’s at least culpable in the handling of classified documents…

And who knows what else he was involved in? I can’t help but wonder if Comey’s use of him as his attorney was to prevent Fitzgerald from being called as a witness?

Or was there going to be a claim of ‘attorney/client privilege’ among other things?

I don’t know where this is all going to go, but I’m pretty sure I’m going to need more popcorn and probably a dictionary to figure out what they are saying. The question will be ‘which’ dictionary to use… sigh

A little humor…

To start the week…

A man was sitting on the edge of the bed, watching his wife, who was looking at herself in the mirror. Since her birthday was not far off he asked what she’d like to have for her birthday.

‘I’d like to be eight again’, she replied, still looking in the mirror.

On the morning of her Birthday, he arose early, made her a nice big bowl of Coco Pops, and then took her to Adventure World theme park. What a day! He put her on every ride in the park, the Death Slide, the Wall of Fear, the Screaming Roller Coaster, everything there was.

Six hours later they staggered out of the theme park back to the car. Her head was reeling and her stomach felt upside down. He then took her to a McDonald’s where he ordered her a Happy Meal with extra fries and a chocolate shake and of course she got her toy after she finished her meal.

Then it was off to a movie, popcorn, a soda pop, and her favorite candy, M&M’s. What a fabulous adventure! Finally she wobbled home with her husband and collapsed into bed exhausted.

He leaned over his wife with a big smile and lovingly asked, ‘Well Dear, what was it like being eight again?

Her eyes slowly opened and her expression suddenly changed. ‘I meant my dress size 8, you idiot!’

The moral of the story: Even when a man is listening, he is still gonna get it wrong.

Games being played???

Interesting that this popped up today after NO coverage earlier in the week that I saw…

Gov. Gavin Newsom’s office backed off plans to close parts of Interstate 5 on Thursday after mounting tension with federal and military officials over a White House-directed live-fire event off Camp Pendleton’s coast.

The governor’s office said they were told federal authorities were considering closing the freeway and when no order materialized by Wednesday, state officials began weighing whether to do so themselves. Driving that decision, they said, were safety concerns about reports that Navy ships would fire live ordnance over the freeway onto the base during the Marine Corps’ 250th anniversary celebration Saturday.

The Marine Corps insisted that “no highways or transportation routes will be closed” following a detailed risk assessment. Capt. Gregory Dreibelbis of the I Marine Expeditionary Force said Thursday that no ordnance will be fired from a U.S. Navy ship during the event, but Marines will fire high explosive rounds from artillery known as M777 Howitzers into designated ranges “with all safety precautions in place.” Simulated explosives and visual effects will also be used, he said.

Full article, HERE from the LA Times.

This makes no sense as anything but a political ploy. There are a ‘lot’ of things that get fired over the California coast into ranges inland. Why ‘this’ particular instance?

As noted, there was no Navy firing of anything in this demo. And the Marines had already done the requisite preplanning and safety investigations/briefs.

Or was it to penalize the Marines and folks who were planning to attend the displays? I-5 is bad enough with the normal traffic issues anyway, much less with 17 miles closed!

Gah…

I HATE getting my eyes dilated…

Go read the folks on the sidebar. I should be back tomorrow.

Posted from my iPhone.

Another swing…

And probably another miss…

New options are coming to troops’ rations, and some less popular items will disappear from the menu.

The next iteration of Meals Ready-to-Eat is MRE 46, set to release in 2026.

Among the options — all of which are required to have shelf lives of six months in 100 degrees Fahrenheit and three years at 80 degrees Fahrenheit — troops will no longer see beef taco filling, a pork sausage patty and jalapeno pepper jack beef patty.

Instead, those items will be replaced with buffalo chicken, Cuban-style beef picadillo with vegetables and a Thai-style red curry with chicken and rice.

“Buffalo chicken is something that [soldiers] have requested. It’s a popular item … so we’re hoping that this item will be longstanding,” Julie Edwards, a Combat Feeding Division senior technologist and registered dietitian, said in a U.S. Army release.

Full article, HERE from Army Times.

Gah, hard to believe MREs have been around 1975 and in the field since 1983. And they’ve sucked the entire time, IMHO. Also, us aviators weren’t allowed to get them, since they were clearly labeled ‘Not for preflight/inflight use’.

Honestly, I was happy with the C-rats they replaced. At least with C-rats, you ‘knew’ which ones to stay away from! And some of them were actually pretty good!!!

The ‘names’ for them by the troops are legendary, and I’m sure most of the vets have ‘some’ names for them…

Apparently there is now a pizza option… I do have some freeze dried foods I keep for emergency use, but I bought mine from Mountain House.

I’ve always put MREs in the same class as I do the ‘freeze dried’ astronaut food (freeze dried ice cream? Really?) I tried it once, and no, just no…

What were/are your experiences with MREs? Any that you actually like?

This…

Is a quick way to a bad ending…

A union that represents CBS News journalists told staffers they won’t be punished if they ignore a memo from their new boss Bari Weiss that has asked for details on their work duties, The Post has learned.

CBS “informed us that you will not be disciplined if you do not respond to the email, indicating that a response is optional,” Writers Guild of America East told employees in a message obtained by The Post.

Any replies also will not be used against workers as “a basis for discipline, discharge or layoff,” according to the message.

Full article, HERE from the NY Post.

There is no way this ends well for CBS and Weiss…

If senior management won’t back her, she’s toast. Any orders, etc. that she originates will be ignored by the employees that don’t ‘like’ them. And that will end up further dividing an already divided news room that Weiss was supposed to be ‘fixing’.

I’ll bet Weiss is gone in less than a year, probably within six months…

And CBS will spiral further down the rathole of bias and irrationality in their coverage.

Sigh…
