Stop it, just STOP it…

Harry Reid once again showed how disconnected from reality he is, blaming the tragedy in Nevada with seven Marines killed Hawthorne Army Ammunition Depot in Nevada and seven or eight injured on sequestration…

Hawthorne is out in the middle of nowhere, about 120 miles Southeast of Reno, NV and transportation of the injured was almost surely an issue…

Among his other blather was this ‘gem’ of wisdom…

“Mr. President, it’s very important we continue training our military, so important. But one of the things in sequester is we cut back in training and maintenance. That’s the way sequester was written.”

You can go HERE and read the rest of his BS statement if you’d like. I’m hearing the Marines are NOT happy about this, and basically consider this nothing more that political posturing, using the dead Marines.

The problem is, exercises like this are planned WELL ahead of time, and safety IS always high on the priority.  What has been done was to immediately isolate the lot of mortar rounds that included the round that blew, both stateside and downrange.  The Marines ‘may’ also temporarily pull the 60mm Mortars from use until the accident investigation board is completed.

Actually, they HAVE banned the use of all 60mm mortars worldwide… Article HERE

Thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the Marines who died, and all those who were injured.  And I truly hope Reid and his ilk just SHUT UP!

From the CMP, an update…

It’s STILL ugly out there for ammo and other things, but this is the first time “I” can remember ever getting something like this from CMP…

LIMITED INVENTORY AT CMP STORES
(March 2013):

RIFLES: The CMP currently has over 12,000 unfilled orders for rifles, ammo and other items. We also still have thousands of M1 Garands. These rifles all require inspection and repair and grading before being put up for sale. At times the customer demand exceeds the amount that our staff can make ready for sale. This is the case now with the field and service grade M1 Garand rifles. As the CMP armory produces the rifles, they are all being used to fill existing mail orders, some from as far back as the beginning of January. Until we catch up on mail orders, there will not be any field or service grade rifles in the stores at Anniston or Camp Perry. For now, we only have the M1 Service Grade Special ($950), M1 CMP Special ($995), M1C, M1D, M1NM, and Kimber model .82 (.22LR) in stock at both stores. We expect this to continue until late June.

AMMO: The CMP does not have any caliber .223, .22LR, or .30 carbine ammo for sale at either store. We are sold out and expect to receive shipments of these calibers in 3-6 months. We continue to accept orders for these calibers and will fill those orders when we receive the replenishment shipments from the manufacturers. We do have caliber .30-06 ammo at both stores, but a 10 can purchase limit per year per customer applies. We also still have the Atomic caliber .308, but expect to run out in the next 60 days

I’m sure others got this too… sigh…

Keeping memories alive…

This one was done a couple of years ago, and is very poignant…

Can you imagine the memories of those old pilots as they saw those airplanes?  I know at the military opening of Udvar Hazy “I” saw a lot of tears…

This is going to be ‘so’ much fun…

Old dog trying to learn new tricks…  This is going to take a while… Please bear with my stupidity while Barron tries to beat this into my thick skull…

If you’re reading this on RSS you’ll need to move your feed.

Many thanks to Barron Barnett for the help and advice to get it set up…

Odd bits of Trivia…

Q: Why do men’s clothes have buttons on the right while women’s clothes have buttons on the left?
A: When buttons were invented, they were very expensive and worn primarily by the rich. Since most people are right-handed, it is easier to push buttons on the right through holes on the left. Because wealthy women were dressed by maids, dressmakers put the buttons on the maid’s right!  And that’s where women’s buttons have remained since.
Q: Why do ships and aircraft use ‘mayday’ as their call for help?
A: This comes from the French word m’aidez -meaning ‘help me’ — and is pronounced, approximately, ‘mayday.’
Q: Why are zero scores in tennis called ‘love’?
A: In France , where tennis became popular, round zero on the scoreboard looked like an egg and was called ‘l’oeuf,’ which is French for ‘egg.’ When tennis was introduced in the US,  Americans mispronounced it ‘love.’
Q. Why do X’s at the end of a letter signify kisses?
A: In the Middle Ages, when many people were unable to read or write, documents were often signed using an X.  Kissing the X represented an oath to fulfill obligations specified in the document.  The X and the kiss eventually became synonymous.
Q: Why is shifting responsibility to someone else called ‘passing the buck’?
A: In card games, it was once customary to pass an item, called a buck, from player to player to indicate whose turn it was to deal. If a player did not wish to assume the responsibility of dealing, he would ‘pass the buck’ to the next player.
Q: Why do people clink their glasses before drinking a toast?
A: It used to be common for someone to try to kill an enemy by offering him a poisoned drink. To prove to a guest that a drink was safe, it became customary for a guest to pour a small amount of his drink into the glass of the host. Both men would drink it simultaneously.  When a guest trusted his host, he would only touch or clink the host’s glass with his own.
Q: Why are people in the public eye said to be ‘in the limelight’?
A: Invented in 1825, limelight was used in lighthouses and theatres by burning a cylinder of lime which produced a brilliant light. In the theatre, a performer ‘in the limelight’ was the centre of attention.
Q: Why is someone who is feeling great ‘on cloud nine’?
A: Types of clouds are numbered according to the altitudes they attain, with nine being the highest cloud.  If someone is said to be on cloud nine, that person is floating well above worldly cares.
Q: In golf, where did the term ‘Caddie’ come from?
A. When Mary Queen of Scots went to France as a young girl, Louis, King of France, learned that she loved the Scots game ‘golf.’  So he had the first course outside of Scotland built for her enjoyment. To make sure she was properly chaperoned  (and guarded) while she played, Louis hired cadets from a military school to accompany her. Mary liked this a lot and when returned to Scotland (not a very good idea in the long run), she took the practice with her.  In French, the word cadet is pronounced  ‘ca-day’ and the Scots changed it into ‘caddie.
Q: Why are many coin banks shaped like pigs?
A: Long ago, dishes and cookware in Europe were made of a dense orange clay called ‘pygg’.  When people saved coins in jars made of this clay, the jars became known as ‘pygg banks.’ When an English potter misunderstood the word, he made a container that resembled a pig.  And it caught on.
Q: Did you ever wonder why dimes, quarters and half dollars have notches (milling), while pennies and nickels do not?
A: The US Mint began putting notches on the edges of coins containing gold and silver to discourage holders from shaving off small quantities of the precious metals. Dimes, quarters and half dollars are notched because they used to contain silver. Pennies and nickels aren’t notched because the metals they contain are not valuable enough to shave.
So there!  Now you know.

HAVA Fundraiser…

Linoge over at Walls of the City is running a fund raiser for HAVA, and he’s asked for some help in getting the word out.

He’s not up to the amount raised for Soldier’s Angels last year, but he’s getting there.

The original request is HERE, and the update is HERE…

Honored American Veterans Afield IS an outstanding charity, and is primarily sponsored by USA Shooting and the NRA.

As the number of injured men and women returning from the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan grew, members of the firearms industry initiated a non-profit partnership called HAVA to aid disabled soldiers as they transition to their lives back in the United States. The ultimate goal is to increase their confidence and hope for the future by reconnecting with their love of the outdoors and the American traditions of hunting and firearms.

If you can spare a few bucks, please help Linoge get his $1500 goal.  I threw some bucks in last night… It IS for a good cause!!!

Back in battery…

Another day, another trip, and I ‘finally’ get to sleep in my own bed… Yea!!!

Cruz got a chunk of Feinstein the other day, and Midwest Chick has a good post up on it HERE

Since I’ve been stuck in hotels the last few nights, I was flipping through channels and ran across the Fox, CNN, PMSNBC and CBS reporting on the kerfuffle…

Fox was the ONLY channel that played the whole sequence, all the others played a little of Cruz, and all of Feinstein’s vitriol in response, and took Feinstein’s side in ALL cases…

I’ve come to the realization that Feinstein, like Pelosi is totally out of touch with reality…  SHE has a damn permit, but ‘we’ shouldn’t be allowed to protect ourselves…

Where does this crap end??? When the shooting starts??? Sigh…
