Vito has the guard…

Got this from PP the other day…

Vito is ‘officially’ on guard duty with Jace… 🙂

vito and jace

Takes a load off ‘my’ mind… Just sayin…

Shooty stuff…

I quick follow-up post from Blogorado…

I finally got back on my 22-250 after Speer had rebarreled it with a Douglas Air Gauged varmint barrel and he and Stingray had sighted it in…

IMG_1416 It took about four rounds to ‘correct’ to my sight picture and being 3000 feet lower in altitude and sighted at 250 vs. 100 yards; and boy is it a truly sweet AND accurate shooter now… Kudos guys!!!

And I got a chance to play with a SCAR 16 (thanks Jason and Thot for the ammo)…

DSC00451

Quite a bit of difference… Had to get the stock out where I could shoot the SCAR, but it’s a point and click… 4MOA red dot aimpoint, with about a 4x magnifer (Jason correct me if I’m wrong).  Easy peasy at 250 yards, had to blow em in at 500, but again easy hits once the ‘hold’ was figured out…

Of course I had to let my ego get the better of me and try to blow them in at 750 with the 22-250 until I was ‘gently’ reminded by Tam that the 55gr round didn’t have the ass to get out that far… Sigh…

And then there was Pedi’s new custom rifle from Wally…

Gotta love the custom engraving and switch codes 🙂

DSC00459

And the other side…DSC00461

And for somebody that ‘claimed’ she’d never shot 500 yards, once we walked her onto the target, she was dinging the steel routinely at 500 yards!!!

HERE is her original post on the new rifle…

And no, I don’t have any pics of any steels or targets, too busy RO’ing or shooting…

For what ever reason, this file refuses to load correctly, but the two hits from 750 are mine and Matt G’s. His is the body shot, and mine is well… a ‘tad’ lower… 🙂

Interesting video clip…

This one was sent to me, and quite honestly I’m not surprised by Maddow’s behaviour…

Does anyone still believe the media is unbiased???

2A worries…

As others have posted and posited, the fact that SCOTUS refused to hear Wollard is worrisome at best, and not setting a good precedent after the Heller case…

From the Wash Times Emily Miller interview with Alan Gura-

“This is far from the last chance the Court will have to rule,” the lead attorney in Woollard v. Gallagher told me in an interview Tuesday. “While disappointing, cases continue to develop in lower courts and one may prove to be more attractive to the Supreme Court.”

The Woollard case challenged Maryland law that citizens have to show “good and substantial reason” to get a carry permit. Mr. Gura represents the Second Amendment Foundation in this and the other high-profile cases, including Madigan v. Moore, in which the Seventh Circuit Court overturned the carry ban in Illinois last year.

/snip/

On a larger scale, the the lead attorney in the landmark Heller case in 2008 is deeply concerned about lower courts turning away most gun-control cases by simply deferring to the legislature.

/snip/

“If the Court doesn’t address the issue, then the Second Amendment is largely a dead letter — it would become mostly unenforceable because there is no such thing as a gun law for which the legislature or police can’t offer a hypothetical justification.”

Full article HERE.

This comes on top of the governors race in VA, where vehemently anti-gunner McAuliffe is getting help from the Clinton camp, Bloomie and who knows who else on the left… As a friend said, make DAMN sure your CCW goes out at least a couple of years; because if McAsshole gets in, there are a lot of folks that think he’ll try to pull a MD type ‘requirements’ list.

And apparently there are issues in Orange Co, California with the Sheriff who absolutely refuses to sign CCW permits period…

Edit- I was wrong on this… Thanks to LL for pointing out the error. I know this was an issue in the past. My bad…

And has anyone in IL actually gotten, well other than the Chiraq aldermen, actually gotten a CCW yet?

Obummercare and Tricare…

Amazingly, they didn’t screw us (yet)…

FALLS CHURCH, Va., Oct. 10, 2013 – The Affordable Care Act, also known as the health care law, was created to expand access to affordable health care coverage, lower costs, and improve quality and care coordination for all Americans.

/snip/

Simply speaking, the Affordable Care Act will have very little impact on TRICARE beneficiaries. The biggest change they will notice may be an extra letter in their mailbox every January, and an extra box to check on their tax forms every April.

Shutdown Day 16

Can- Kicked- One each…

President Obama early Thursday signed a short-term bill ending the partial government shutdown and raising the debt ceiling, capping one of the most bitter and brutal political fights in recent memory.

The bill cleared the House late Wednesday on a 285-144 vote, lifted over the finish line by a large chunk of Democrats. All House Democrats voted in favor of the bill and 87 Republicans did as well. 144 Republicans voted against it.

The Senate, where the plan originated, earlier voted 81-18 for the bill.

The result will come as a relief to furloughed federal workers, but leaves unfinished any long-term agreement over the nation’s fiscal future. As with past 11th-hour deals, this one kicks off the tough decisions to a separate committee and sets up another set of deadlines.

Lawmakers could again be at loggerheads by mid-January.

So in other words, jack shit got done other than some more pork, and the spigot is wide open…

And we’ll be doing this all over again in Jan…  I’m thinking that we need to fire everydamnone of those assholes in congress, put in term limits and start over…

This sculpture by Bob Clyatt pretty much says it all as far as I’m concerned!

TB1-3_Zuccotti_Park_with_spectators-L-Bob_Clyatt_Sculpture

Statement from the Sculptor- This series stemmed from my effort to explore, in a post-partisan manner, feelings about the long-term effects of significant government indebtedness on a group of Americans who are either not-yet-born or under-represented in the political discourse.  It arises out of my concern for all manner of sustainability issues.  Video of Fox News profile of this piece during the CutLog Art Fair in NYC, 2013.

Shutdown Day 15…

B. Boxer compares Pubs to wife beaters and abusers…

And ‘I’ always thought equal treatment under the law was one of the foundations of America, but I guess that doesn’t apply to obummercare… Seems that everybody but us ‘little people’ get exclusions/additional funding…

Still no ‘deals’, but much being made about how the Pubs are “falling apart”…

Bottom line- Zip, zilch, nada

The ONLY positive, BO presented the MOH to Capt William Swenson for his actions in Afghanistan.  Kudos to Duncan Hunter (R-CA) for getting this award back in the system…

Story HERE.

While I admire Capt Swenson’s desire to return to active duty, that would NOT end well.  He’s been heavily critical of superiors for their lack of air support (well deserved), but he will never be able to be ‘just another officer’ again…

Personally, I also think this is a VERY calculated move by the administration to ‘show the love’ for the military and overcome the negative press from the last couple of weeks.

Boeing 787 review…Meh…

Flew on a 787 from DEN to NRT today…

FLT 139 was over an hour late getting out due to a ‘computer glitch’ in the cockpit, there was a ‘warning’ on the TTY that they couldn’t clear and had to call a senior maintainer to get it finally fixed…

Nickyneat little ‘personal’ screen in the seat back of the seat ahead of you.  Problem is the system died on takeoff and it took over an hour and a half of the FAs screwing with it to get it to come back up…  (Appears to be a known problem)IMG_1420

Quieter???  Maybe, but I’m half deaf…  And people were playing with the windows for about 15 minutes.

Smoother ride???  It’s a more ‘squishy’ ride, kinda like an old Super Connie or a B-52. All the wing flap makes for some interesting side to side motions rather than the up/down motions.  I went back to the tail during one set of bumps, and there IS a significant improvement over the Airbus and it’s frantic tail motions trying to stabilize the airplane with rudder/elevator movements.  Bottom line, it still bumps and bounces just like all the other airplanes. IMG_1419

If you ain’t the lead dog the view doesn’t change… Only positive, better overhead bins that you can actually FIT rollaboards in.  And the seats are a tad bit better, more like the seats on the Shinkansan in Japan, the seat bottom rotates slightly in conjunction with the seat back to give one a little bit of repositioning.  So that takes the seats from a 2 to a 3 on  a scale of 10…

The aisles are VERY narrow, leading to anyone walking by bumping folks sitting on the aisles unless they sidle down sideways.  Got banged by the serving cart, got a big bruise coming on my knee; FA didn’t give a rats ass…  No surprise…  It was “MY” fault…

IMG_1421

Way too much of this…IMG_1422

Finally…  Typically lousy food, supposed ‘chicken’ had no identifiable parts that ‘I’ would call chicken.  Typically grouchy older flight attendants, the younger ones seemed to be at least trying to provide good service.IMG_1424

Bottom line, another cattle car… A little newer, but at least it’s a Boeing…

Oh yeah, and I get here just in time to get smacked with a typhoon…

Typhoon 25W WIPHATyphoon Wipha… Max winds 105 kts, the eye is expected to ‘miss’ us by 10 miles…

Sigh…

Shutdown Day 14… Urban Legends???

Progress?  Same as the previous days… Zip, zilch…

And it appears the administration has remained ‘strangely’ quiet on the vets march and VA and Vet issues.  It appears their sole reaction was to deploy police in riot gear…

And it appears there are little or no ‘actual’ numbers of enrollees either at the national level or state levels… And even the numbers of visitors appear to be ‘questionable’ at best… Story HERE.

And in answer to the email about where we were shooting from, it’s here…

DSC00217

Looking from the parking area at the long range bench and the 750 yard berm in the distance on the horizon.  If it hadn’t been for the wind…

sigh…

Shutdown Days 11-12-13…

Zip, zilch, nada out of DC other than hot air…

But the Vets decided to pay visits to various places including the WWII Memorial and Lincoln Memorial.  Pics and article HERE.  And apparently they delivered some “Barrycades” to the White House! 🙂  Had I been in the area, I’d have been there…

I stand with the Vets!

In other news, Blogorado had to come to an early end for me, work intervened (again). THANKS to FarmFam for putting up with us, and hosting us,  feeding us and giving us a much needed break. The usual suspects were here, minus a couple of folks for a number of reasons.  Y’all were missed!!!

Fun times were had, and much money was turned into smoke and noise!  Me on AR50

Down on the AR-50, three rounds to get on target at 750. I’ll take that in 20kts, gusting winds… And I’m not going to tell you the hold, you’d call me a liar…

Me on 03A3

And shooting a SWEET 03A3 at 750, sadly no hits with it, but I scared it a couple of times…  Both those sweet rifles courtesy of Terry.  Thank you Sir!!!

Good friends, good times, and ended way too quickly…  The conversations were much as always, varying between possums, to the wind, to…

And as usual our ‘theme’ song was, “If the wind would just die down, it’d be a beautiful day.”

We had a couple of T&E items thanks to GC and AD, thanks for letting us play with them!
