ABOUT THE PAINTING

STAND YOUR GROUND

America is about freedom. We believe in strong families, patriotism, God, and justice.  We won’t bother you if you don’t bother us . . . well, that’s the way it should be.

I wanted to paint a picture that represents why I think gun ownership is important.  Since our country’s inception, we have proudly believed in the right of each citizen to own firearms.  No man, or group, can take away these unalienable rights.

The man in this painting can be any American who is patriotic, responsible, well trained, and won’t back down to any kind of aggressor.

I’m going to order a Litho of this one… You can too- HERE.

Shutdown Day 6…

Another day, nothing done… EXCEPT, nobody in the administration seems to know exactly (or even a best guess) how many people have actually signed up for obummercare…

And now it’s being called a ‘slimdown’ rather than a shut down.  BUT having said that, there is this from Cowboy Byte…

Just before the weekend, the National Park Service informed charter boat captains in Florida that the Florida Bay was “closed” due to the shutdown. Until government funding is restored, the fishing boats are prohibited from taking anglers into 1,100 square-miles of open ocean. Fishing is also prohibited at Biscayne National Park during the shutdown.

The Park Service will also have rangers on duty to police the ban… of access to an ocean. The government will probably use more personnel and spend more resources to attempt to close the ocean, than it would in its normal course of business.

Full article HERE.  Guess they better get some $$ to the Navy and Coasties, and get em back ‘patrolling’ the seas (close to home)…

Sigh…

On a lighter note- Admiral McRaven answers a young boy’s question on which is quieter, SEALs or Ninjas… Story HERE.

And the strange story of a bombshelter in Beaumont, TX, that hasn’t been opened in 50 years… Story HERE.

Sometimes you see ‘really’ strange things…

Sideways airplane wing anyone???

IMG_1394

This cat is designed to be ‘autonomous’ and sail on it’s own.  They split this thing down the middle and gutted the front to put in a reinforced mast to hold the solid sails. They are controlled by hydraulics, and are split into an upper and lower section.  Each half acts like a wing and aileron with the ‘aileron’ used to control the amount of ‘wing’ catching the wind.

IMG_1404

You can see how big the mast is in this picture, and it is about that large all the way to the top.  Also you can see the ‘probes’ on the gray spars that stick out to the right side of the wing.  They are very sensitive instruments that give ‘relative wind’ indications and allow computer control of the wing position.

Shutdown Day 5

Another day with zip being done by the congresscritters…

And apparently the the obummercare site was down for ‘maintenance’; but according to the administration it was because ‘so many people’ were signing up… Yeah, right…

SECDEF Hagel is making an ‘interesting’ play by ordering the DOD civilians back to work, he’s using the ‘logic’ that if the military is being paid, that means the DOD civilians should be paid also.

We’ll have to see how that plays out (probably NOT well with the administration)…

And BO stepped up today and said he would ‘think’ about changing the name of the Redskins, since it’s offensive… Sigh…

Article HERE.

And apparently the Iwo Jima memorial is (or was) closed off too.  Not anymore! 🙂

Article HERE.

And it appears BO loaned the SEALs out again…  HERE

So the question is, when will he take credit for THIS raid???

Blow out kit…

Various folks have discussed medical/blow out kits for the range, and I decided to get a smaller kit that I could throw in my bag when I go out of town.  This one is from Officer Survival Solutions (OSS), and is called the Rapid Response Pack.

DSC00377

The nice thing is this kit fits handily in the cargo pocket of a set of 5.11s!

DSC00379

Here is a full list of the contents:

1- SWAT-T Tactical Wrap Tourniquet, 1- OSS Blood Absorbing 3inch Pressure Bandage, 2- 4×4 Hemostat Gauze Packs, 6- 4×4 12ply Sterile Gauze Pads, 2- 3in Sterile Gauze roll, 1- Rescue Shears 5.25in, 1- 1in Medical Tape, 1- 5X9 Trauma Dressing, 1- 3×9 Petroleum Gauze Pad, 2- pair OSS Tactical Black Nitrile Gloves, 1-4×6 Medical Pouch with elastic straps and multiple pockets for medical supplies, a bi-lateral easy open zipper for one handed deployment if needed and detachable subdued American flag.

You can find them HERE.

Highly recommended…

And FTC, screw you, I paid for this myself. No compensation from the company, none expected…

Shutdown Day 4…

Again today they did jack diddley in Congress today… BO and Reid are staying on their no negotiation stance, and the healthcare signup continues to be a cesspool of suck and fail.  It DOES seem those few who have gotten in are ‘shocked’, shocked I say, at the cost of the premiums…

And there are additional hits to the military-  Cut of ALL AFRTS channels other than the AFN news feed.  No sports, no other programming…

Normandie Cemetary in France is padlocked and closed… On orders from the administration.

The WWII Memorial and others now have the barricades wired together to prevent access.

The administration tried to shut down Mt. Vernon, even though it’s PRIVATELY owned. They claim the parking lots were federal and blocked off the bus turnaround, and parking lots/spots including one spot the THREE parking spaces.

The U.S. military has furloughed as many as 50 Catholic chaplains due to the partial suspension of government services, banning them from celebrating weekend Mass. At least one chaplain was told that if he engaged in any ministry activity, he would be subjected to disciplinary action.

The Archdiocese for the Military Services tells me the military installations impacted are served by non-active-duty priests who were hired as government contractors. As a result of a shortage of active duty Catholic chaplains, the government hires contract priests.

And Proud Hillbilly has one I missed HERE.

In the ‘reaction’ department, Sam’s Clubs nationwide are opening their doors to military personnel without having to buy a membership for the duration of the closure!

If you live near a Sam’s Club and are in the market for bulk groceries, this could be your lucky day. According to Sam’s Club officials all military members will be allowed to shop in the members-only warehouse store for free until the government shutdown ends and the commissaries reopen.

“In appreciation for the service that military personnel provide our members and communities, Sam’s Club locations near military bases will waive membership requirements for military personnel, retirees and their families so they may continue saving on everyday goods and groceries,” club officials said in a statement.

And in the same ol’ category…

ANAHEIM HILLS (CBSLA.com) — A high school principal has apologized for forcing a 16-year-old student to remove her National Rifle Association shirt last month.

Haley Bullwinkle, a sophomore at Canyon High School said she was asked to change or face suspension because her T-shirt, which featured a buck, an American flag, and a hunter’s silhouette, violated the school’s dress code and promoted gun violence.

I apologize…

For my lack of commenting and lousy posts… A tad busy…

Sorry, but this will probably continue until around the 20th of Oct…

Go read the folks on the sidebar.

Shutdown Day 3…

Well yesterday was ‘full’ of surprises… NOT…

Gun to the head rhetoric from the White House, no negotiation; but it’s the Pubs fault…

Real guns came out as the Capitol Police shot and killed a ‘black female’ in a black Infinity that apparently tried to run a barricade in DC.  Apparently multiple shots were fired by the LEOs as the car was considered a weapon.  Apparently there was a small child in the back seat during the whole time.  Interestingly, NONE of the major media identified the woman as black, and when questioned the police refused to state the ethnicity…

I can’t help but wonder how this one is going to be spun…  And it’s pretty sad when I have to make that statement.

However, in other news, people STILL can’t register for obummercare; must have an email address, and apparently a ‘traceable’ IP address…

Access to MCAS Miramar for the upcoming airshow was cancelled, e.g. NO airshow (there were not going to be any military acft performing anyway).

Oh yeah, and if you’re in TN, you get a free Obamaphone too!

Community Health Alliance, Tennessee’s health insurance co-op, is running a unique promotional program to drive enrollment in its plans for sale on the exchange: health insurance in exchange for a smartphone.

As part of its Community Health Connection Program, CHA is offering qualified individuals an LG Lucid 2 4G smart phone (or equivalent model), a phone plan and tech support, included as a cost of their health plan benefits. The phone plan includes unlimited talk, unlimited texting and 1.2GB of data.

The idea is to make it easier for providers and patients to stay connected, but it will also help CHA keep track of its member population, many of whom are expected to be new to the health insurance market.

Bold/highlight is mine…

And more WWII vets ‘crashed’ the barricades, and BO and his minions sent protesters out from SEIU… For $15…

They never give up…

Prescient???

A friend pointed this out to me last night…

Those kids are now around early 20’s…  And it gives me chills…

And they voted for BO…

Nuff said…

Shutdown Day 2…

A couple of interesting points have been raised today in various conversations…

First, is this shutdown just one more ‘distraction’ to minimize the failure of Obummercare sign-ups?  If everybody is concentrating on that, they’re not paying attention to all the problems with trying to sign up.

If you want to try something interesting, try accessing healthcare.gov through a TOR browser…

Second, in the make it hurt category, they closed all military commissaries world-wide today.

Third, the whole thing surrounding the WWII vets and the Memorial…  It’s now coming out that the people tried to get the administration’s permission and were denied and THEN the barriers went up (WHY?  Park Service is NOT furloughed). This is about as petty as the White House tour thing…

And in the YGTBSM category, I get a work related call just now with a set of what about… questions, after about the sixth one, I finally cut the guy off and told him to go see the guy in charge, it was all already discussed and if he’d been at the meeting he would have know that.  And ‘that’ was the reason he wasn’t in charge… Sigh…
