It’s a WHAT???

Yep, a ‘little’ goldfish… like the ones in your little aquarium, except somebody threw them in a lake and they grew up… AKA CARP!!!

They are aggressive, grow bigger than you think, and contribute to poor water quality when they uproot and disturb submerged vegetation while searching for insect larvae to eat. They also reduce water clarity and stir up bottom phosphorus-containing sediments, which contributes to algae blooms.

Are they that much of a problem???

Yes! HERE is an article from Popular Mechanics about dealing with invasive carp.

OBTW, they aren’t really that edible either. Oily and, as bottom feeders, tend to be ‘muddy’ flavored unless ‘cleaned out’ thoroughly in clear water.

FYI, Koi (the pretty fish in a lot of Japanese fish tanks/hotels/Hawaii are also carp!!!

Fun times!!!

Took a trip down to Fort Worth yesterday to meet up with an old friend and take in the Vintage Flying Museum (he volunteers there).

If you’re expecting the ‘normal’ museum experience, this one isn’t for you. It is a FLYING museum where the birds do actually fly! So they are usually working on at least some of them, as they take a bunch of maintenance! All done by volunteers (averaging about 5000 hours per airplane per year).

Without further ado- Pictures…

Straight stick A-26, veteran of WWII, Korea, and Vietnam.

Yak trainer.

Like I said, WORKING hangar… The A-26A in the back is undergoing an Annual inspection, and it is the ONLY flyable 26A in the world. The other five are in museums.

C-47 getting a jug changed. It has to be up for next weekend, where it will be dropping jumpers.

Beautiful N2N Stearman, former Navy trainer.

This one is really interesting- The last aircraft Jackie Cochran owned and flew. It is being restored and will be flown around the country by the 99s (Women pilots group started in 1929) promoting women in aviation.

There will be a few more pictures tomorrow! And we went down to the Stockyards for lunch at Cooper’s BBQ, so a good day all around.

Book promo…

First up is Sarah Hoyt’s new story- Other Rhodes

As always, click the cover for the Amazon link.

The blurb-

Lily Gilden has a half-crazed cyborg in her airlock who thinks he’s Nick Rhodes, a fictional 20th Century detective. If she doesn’t report him for destruction, she’s guilty of a capital crime.

But with her husband missing, she’ll use every clue the cyborg holds, and his detective abilities, to solve the crime her husband was investigating when he disappeared.

With the help of a journalist who is more than he seems, Lily will risk everything to plunge into the interstellar underworld and bring the love of her life home!

Next up is David A. Tatum with the third book in the Law of Swords series- In Division Imperiled

The blurb-

THE LAW OF SWORDS: A set of laws written to prevent infighting among Svieda’s Royal Heirs in the event the King dies unexpectedly. One of these laws has never been needed… until now.

IN DIVISION IMPERILED
Divided by a war on two fronts, Svieda hopes to benefit from an expected reduction in hostilities that the upcoming winter snows will bring. With armies of hostile Porosian Elves in training, however, it cannot afford to pause its own operations, whatever the weather.

Euleilla soon finds herself defending the new military capital of Rocky Run from Poros’ Human armies while the bulk of her own forces are at large, scrambling for any advantage they can find against both of their enemies.

Meanwhile, Maelgyn has been called away on a secret mission by Wangdu and Phalra: Finding their uncle, who happens to have been one of Lord Ajiro’s greatest allies in the Ancient era. Is he going to be able and willing to help? And just where are all the Elves in this Elven sanctuary, after all?

A new add, recommended by a friend who knew him as an LEO is Danny R. Smith’s first book in his Dickie Floyd series- A Good Bunch of Men

The blurb-

Two cops. Twice the murder. Double the trouble on LA’s mean streets…

Los Angeles, 1990s. Hard-boiled homicide detective Dickie Jones and his cocky partner Matt “Pretty Boy Floyd” Tyler are no strangers to tragic deaths. But the L.A. Sheriff’s odd couple is shocked by the vicious slaying of a transsexual prostitute. And when the victim’s working-girl roommate turns up dead only hours later, they find themselves hunting a killer with a terrifying agenda.

With the clues leading them through LA’s sleaziest neighborhoods, Dickie and Floyd run headlong into a brutal, drug-dealing gang. But as they begin to unravel a disturbingly ugly scheme, they land in the crosshairs of a sinister sniper.

Can Dickie and Floyd expose a conspiracy before a hail of bullets sends them to the morgue?

A Good Bunch of Men is the atmospheric first book in the Dickie Floyd Detective mystery series. If you like headstrong heroes, police procedurals, and unexpected plot twists, then you’ll love Danny R. Smith’s gripping whodunit.

Like Joseph Wambaugh, he’s definitely writing based on his personal knowledge of the ‘mean streets’ of LA. I’m enjoying the series, FWIW…

Last, but not least, Mike Kupari with a new book- The Family Business

The blurb-

Decades ago, the Visitors descended on Earth. They claimed to bring peace and prosperity. Their real goal was the total subjugation of humankind. But humanity did not give up its only home without a fight.

After a devastating war, the Visitors were driven back to Mars. Their millions of willing human collaborators were left behind. The task of hunting down these former alien collaborators and bringing them to justice falls to Federal Recovery Agents like Nathan Foster.

Now, Nathan Foster is tasked with bringing to justice Emmogene Anderson. As a teenager, Emmogene was experimented on by the Visitors and implated with a device that allows her to control other people. With her is her obsessive ex-lover, who was also a former commando of the Visitors’ forces. It’s an easy enough job—but Emmogene has been implanted with something else, something much more important.

Nathan and Ben must decide what is right in a largely lawless world—and the fate of the planet hangs in the balance.

Really???

This article from yesterday’s Early Bird is spectacular!  The Harris-Biden regime (or whoever is actually pulling the strings on them) has reached a level of relentless 24/7/365 lying that makes Goebbels’ Propaganda Ministry, Baghdad Bob, and the Chinese Communist Party press secretary look really good by comparison…
Of course, they do not mean all PantiFa, BLM, the New Black Panthers, or the Rise of the Moors….only conservatives and Trump voters! And NOBODY is taking these government apparatchik a-holes and traitors to court for pushing this obscene anti-American agenda…

This was the BOLD headline from the Omaha World Herald…

Domestic terrorism today more complex than threat after 9/11, says DHS counterterrorism chief

John Cohen, from DHS, made this statement in his keynote to the Univ of Nebraska Omaha National Counterterrorism Innovation, Technology, and Education Center — known as NCITE.

Cohen’s address to the UNO group follows closely on the Biden administration’s announcement last month of a broad strategy to combat domestic terrorism, the first time a U.S. president has done so.

At the time, Biden described domestic terrorism as “a stain on the soul of America.”

The strategy calls for improved analysis and information-sharing by government agencies, prevention of recruitment and mobilization, disruption and deterrence of domestic terrorists, and confrontation of basic contributors such as racism and bigotry.

Full article, HERE.

What I find truly interesting is the ‘lack’ of specific definitions of any of the terms, but also the makeup of the NCITE… 3000 College students with 50 professors as minders??? WTF???

Is anybody vetting them for their knowledge set, abilities to actually DO research, etc. etc.  Just asking…

What really scares me about this is 3000 ‘indoctrinated’  millennials out there figuring out what ‘they’ think is terrorism (e.g. anything that doesn’t fit with their narrative/agenda/CRT/ect…

TBT…

Today’s throwback is from the early 60s, although it wasn’t admitted to until years later…

Yes, Britain DID nuke the US not once, but twice… Simulated of course…

But that had to be embarrassing as hell for the brass… Especially Lemay who was, I believe the Air Force Chief at the time… LOL

In other ‘flying’ news…

A bunch of actual turkeys in PP’s back yard… until grandson let the Labs out, and there was apparently a BUNCH of flying all of a sudden… 10 birds launching in all directions ‘away’ from the dogs… LOL

That’s going to…

Leave a mark…

It appears even after ALL the convolutions in NYC, the law and order candidate on the dem side is going to win the primary over the dem’s hand picked cadidate…

That is going to set the cat among the chickens on the left…LOL

Eric Adams won the Democratic nomination in the race to replace Mayor Bill de Blasio — squeaking out a narrow victory in the ranked-choice primary, according to a preliminary count of the final vote tally Tuesday evening.

Full article, HERE.

And I apparently oopsied yesterday on the numbers from Chiraq over the weekend…

Chicago’s most violent weekend of 2021: 104 shot, 19 of them killed. 13 kids among the wounded.

From the Chicago Sun Times, HERE. And HERE’s the link to the yearly tracker from the Chicago Tribune.

Even though Lightfoot says crime is NOT out of control, HERE.

In other news, apparently Xiden’s team is ‘not’ happy with Harris and the possibility is that Buttigieg is being ‘positioned’ by media and the left… Article HERE from Breitbart.

Lastly, yet another pair of locations (this time in California) have relooked at the Covid death tolls and guess what? Down by 25%. Article HERE. Funny how when anybody ‘questioned’ these death tolls last year they were excoriated as ‘unbelievers’ and conspiracy theorists… In discussions I’ve had with a few folks, the general consensus (none of us are doctors or researchers, but we DO read various publications) is that the death toll is at least 25% too high nationwide, and at least that much high world-wide, because a Covid diagnosis was a money maker for the hospitals… sigh…

And nobody is counting those deaths from those that COULDN’T get life saving procedures because ‘all the beds were needed’…

And I’ll leave you with this… h/t to Stretch for this one…

Sigh…

Many on the Right are calling to defund National Public Radio after it tweeted that the Declaration of Independence is “a document with flaws and deeply ingrained hypocrisies.”

Full article HERE from the Washington Examiner. And then there is THIS article about Chiraq… 88 shot 14 dead over the 4th of July weekend… Where are BLM and all the other black bloc groups protesting that???

And from Reuters, another story about dams and water rights… NOT 3 Gorges this time… Story HERE about Egypt, Ethiopia, and Sudan fighting over the Nile. This one has the potential to go to a shooting war with a quickness…

We made it through the 4th!!!

Good food, good friends, more fireworks, and I’m wore out. Go read the folks on the sidebar while I get my act together!

Apparently the Blues and Thunderbirds were BOTH in Kansas City for the airshow yesterday, but didn’t perform together. What a shame. But this is the first airshow I can remember where BOTH teams were at the same show.

Some great pics HERE, from the Kansas City Star! Enjoy.

Happy Independence Day!!!

The 4th of July is the ONLY Independence Day we celebrate…

245 years ago, our founding fathers

declared that the thirteen American colonies were no longer subject (and subordinate) to the monarch of BritainKing George III, and were now united, free, and independent states. The Congress had voted to declare independence two days earlier, on July 2, but it was not declared until July 4.

I was lucky to be able to watch the 4th of July fireworks on the National Mall for a number of years from Ft. Myer, which overlooks the Potomac and the Mall…

And there is this nice little video from the Navy with ‘our’ fireworks…

Go enjoy the day and your local fireworks!!! Long may our flag wave in freedom!!!

We’ll be doing burgers and brats, and our little local fireworks demo tonight.
