Bleg…

Need some help over here…

Situation is two Winchester 94s, one a carbine, one a rifle. One 1962, one considerably newer. BOTH in 30-30. Two fairly competent shooters (Lawdog and myself).

Iron sights, from a rest.

With this ammo-

30-30-1

30-30-2

With either rifle, either of us shooting, these rounds were all over the place! Off the paper to 10-11 inches high, 6-8 inches left at 100 yards, NO consistency in the pattern or even on paper some times.

Switched to 150gr Winchester, both rifles grouped about 3-4 inches at 100 yards.

Anybody else had this/seen this problem? We are completely at a loss!

Any help???

Bueller??? 🙂

Armistice of Compiègne…

On the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month…

The Armistice was signed to end ‘the war of all wars’.

It marked a victory for the Allies and a complete defeat for Germany, although not formally a surrender. The actual terms, largely written by French Marshal and Supreme Commander of the Allied Armies Ferdinand Foch, included the cessation of hostilities, the withdrawal of German troops to behind their own borders, the preservation of infrastructure, the exchange of prisoners, a promise of reparations, the disposition of German warships and submarines, and conditions for prolonging or terminating the armistice.

Interestingly, there was NO American representative at the official signing onboard Marshal Foch’s private car.

It took six months of negotiations at the Paris Peace Conference to conclude the peace treaty, the Treaty of Versailles.

US 64th Regiment celebrates Armistice

Henry Gunther (American) is acknowledged as the last casualty of WWI, apparently despondent over a demotion, he charged the Germans and was killed less than a minute before the armistice too effect.

Sadly, England, France and Germany lost almost an entire generation of males in the war. And didn’t learn the lesson, starting WWII in September 1939, thanks to Corporal Adolf Hitler…

Remember those in your families that have served or are serving now. Thank a veteran if you get the chance.

Well, well, well…

It appears hell froze over TWICE this year…

First the Cubbies and now Trump…

Has everyone stopped hyperventilating now???

The stock market closed higher yesterday (good news), the left and the media are in meltdown, along with the pollsters…

A couple of comments I’ve seen so far that pretty much hit the nail on the head-

“Turns out if you demonize the people you disagree with, paint them as racists and oppressors and tell them that any and all of their successes are a result of some unearned “privilege,” they will create a counter-revolution.

“Progressives, Trump is the consequence of your actions, your rhetoric, and the identity politics you brought into American politics. You made your bed, now lie in it.”

And then there is this…

We still don’t know who will win the electoral college, although as I write this it looks — incredibly, horribly — as if the odds now favor Donald J. Trump. What we do know is that people like me, and probably like most readers of The New York Times, truly didn’t understand the country we live in.

From Paul Krugman at the NYT, HERE.

And one more…

The election of Donald Trump to the Presidency is nothing less than a tragedy for the American republic, a tragedy for the Constitution, and a triumph for the forces, at home and abroad, of nativism, authoritarianism, misogyny, and racism.

New Yorker’s David Remick yesterday morning, HERE.

This cover from 1976 seems like it should be the cover  now…

This cover has quite the history too… HERE.

I posted this yesterday morning on the book of face, and I stand by it…

Just when we thought our country was about to slip beneath the waves, the “impossible” happened. Or, at least the mainstream media told us it was an impossibility. Only ten days ago, they were saying this race was “over.” Last night, the good American people said otherwise.

The media (CNN/NBC/MSNBC) and the pollsters failed in their kingmaking… Jake Tapper and others were heard to say “We’re losing” before quickly changing to “She’s losing” last night.

As per usual, those who didn’t vote for Clinton are being accused of everything under the sun, with the left trying their damnest to foment rioting and turn people against each other. Saying if you’re rural you are stupid or if you are not college educated you don’t deserve to vote is a pathetic attempt to ‘justify’ how they lost.

Trump WILL NOT BE A KING. Period. He will be reined in by Congress and the Courts, so just stop it with that line of BS…

And lest people forget, Blacks, Hispanics, Asians, and many other cultures voted for Trump.

IMHO, what happened was the long suffering silent majority had finally had enough… On one hand a venal, demonstrably corrupt politician who’s ‘platform’ consisted of ‘it’s MY turn and continuing the Obama style of ignoring the laws of this country to pander to various groups, refusal to call terrorism for what it is, etc.

Trump, not perfect by a long shot, at least had ideas that resonated with JQ Public… Border security, jobs, getting the military back to a functional structure and stopping terrorism.

If nothing else, this election has driven stakes through TWO political dynasties… The Bushs, and now the Clintons…

As far as I’m concerned, this is all for the better. Career politicians are the anathema of what America stands for, and we the people have spoken.

And to all those who ‘threatened’ to leave??? Don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out… America is better without you.

The sun came up, the world will go on, for better or worse… But at least for now, Americans have taken America back, at least for a while…

Another author…

Our own Crucis is now a published author!!! 🙂

This is great news, Mike is truly one of the good guys!

In case any of you have been wondering why I’ve been quiet on the ‘net these last few months, the reason is that I’ve been writing some short stories. I’ve sold two this summer to an online e-magazine, the Grantville Gazette. If any of you have read 1632 by Eric Flint, the short stories are written in his alternate history universe.

You can read my first one at this link.

I was privileged to get an early read, and it’s a damn good story!

Gotta love it when us old farts find yet another ‘career’… 😀

Voting…

Today IS the day…

This is arguably the most important election in our lifetimes in the USA. I’m not going to say whom to vote for, but I WILL ask you to go to the polls today and exercise that right you have to vote.

This vote will determine where we go with SCOTUS, the environment and other major issues (including the debt).

Don’t go by sound bites, do your research, then cast and informed vote. Your vote DOES count!

During World War Two, the German battleship Tirpitz had become the scourge of Royal Navy. The battleship had been moved into a fjord in northern Norway where she threatened the Arctic convoys and was too far north to be attacked by air from the Great Britain. She had already been damaged by an attack by Royal Navy midget submarines and a series of attacks from carrier-borne aircraft of the Fleet Air Arm, but both attacks had failed to sink her.

The task was given to Avro Lancasters of No. 9 and No. 617 Squadrons, who operated from a staging base in Russia to attack Tirpitz with Tallboy bombs. They damaged her so extensively that she was forced to head south to Tromsø fjord to be repaired. This fjord was in range of RAF Avro Lancaster bombers operating from Scotland, and from there, in October, she was attacked again, but cloud cover thwarted the attack. Finally on 12 November 1944, the two squadrons of Avro Lancasters attacked Tirpitz, capsizing her. All three RAF attacks on Tirpitz were led by Wing Commander JB “Willy” Tait, who had succeeded Wing Commander Cheshire as CO of No. 617 Squadron in July 1944.

Standing up for the Flag…

Thanks to Blaine for this one…

Hallelujah!  God bless this man!!!  You want to talk about “freedom of speech” ?  These photos are worth all the words you can think of to proclaim honor for our flag and the nation it represents!  Hooray for this guy — I pray this flies around the WEB and others with a public voice will follow his lead!  Made my day!

Colin Kaepernick may have started the kneeling in protest of America’s national anthem, but Stephen Martin, owner of Prime Time Sports in Colorado Springs, Colorado, has started a patriotic rising unlike anything that’s ever been done before.
Martin first took a stand when NFL player Brandon Marshall refused to stand for the anthem.   Immediately, Martin cancelled Marshall’s scheduled autograph signing event in his store.  But he wasn’t done.   He replaced the star’s event with something entirely different in his store, and in one week, it has grown to epic proportions that he can hardly even keep up with now.
He put out a post on Facebook, respectfully disagreeing with the disrespect of the nation’s flag and anthem, then proceeded to explain just what the flag means to him, and the sacrifice of all the men and women who have fought for it.     Martin invited people to send photos of their loved ones who are veterans, in active service, or who have been injured or given their lives in the line of duty.
The photos started pouring in from all across the country, and as fast as they were emailed, Martin printed them off and taped them to his store front window.  Americans are sharing their photos and stories on his Facebook page, as well as sending to him through email, and each day he has posted photos of the progress.

“Day #3 “Honor The Flag”. 77 photos went up today. Our flag has been soaked in blood and sweat represented by these pictures, but it is the “words with tears” that come with them, that keep it wet.

“Day #4 “Honor The Flag”. 128 photos went up today and I am still moved by the stories with each photo.”
“Day 7 “Honor The Flag” memorial wall. 190 photos just went up. It has been difficult keeping up with personal responses to each photo. At 62 I still need my afternoon naps. Please do not see my lack of correspondence to each photo as anything disrespectful.”
Thursday morning, he said, “Woke up to 190 emails this morning. They are coming in faster than I can read, get downloaded and over to Walgreens to get printed.”
America has truly answered Martin’s call to “hear the voice of the American flag.”

Below is his original Facebook statement that started Martin’s “Honor The Flag” memorial wall.
My name is Stephen Martin and I own Prime Time Sports in the Chapel Hills Mall. A month before the NFL season began I made an agreement with Brandon Marshall of the Denver Broncos to have a public autograph signing.
After Thursday night’s opening game I decided to cancel this event and soon after my store phones and social media pages were lit up with the kind of words that no business owner ever wants to here.
I respect Brandon Marshall’s freedom of expression, but I question his method of delivery. I agree that his concerns need to be addressed, but not at the expense of our flag and what it represents.
There have been times in the last week where I have gone AWOL to my heart by my silence, but now I have been awakened by the memory of my wife’s father Kenneth J Porwoll who survived the Bataan Death March.
He was thrown into the hull of a cargo ship called the Taga Maru where he was sandwiched with hundreds of other soldiers without room to even lie down while being hauled to Japan where he was a POW for 3 1/2 years. He was saturated in human sweat, urine and fecal matter for weeks in plus 100 degree heat without food, water or medical care and to this store owner that story is a better use of the word “deplorable”.
I was at this man’s funeral. I saw the American Flag draped over his coffin. I was there when that folded American Flag was handed to his wife, Mary Ellen Porwoll. I heard that 21 gun salute.
This store owner believes that the simple act of standing during our national anthem is a noble and responsible gesture that salutes our nation and the military that protects it. Now I want to stand up and hear the voice of the American Flag and I need your help.
I am asking for photos of your loved ones that are veterans, in active service, who have been injured in the line of duty or who have paid the ultimate price. I will post these photos on my store front windows under the banner, “These people have sacrificed for the ideas represented by our flag. We honor them”.
I got this powerful vision that we can cover these windows top to bottom and side to side and proclaim our support for these United States of America. Will you help me build this wall of honor?\\Photos can be brought in or mailed to Prime Time Sports, 1710 Briargate Blvd, Colorado Springs, CO 80920 or emailed tohonortheflagprimetimesports@gm ail.com.

By the way, I voted… Have you? WILL you?

Wow… Just… Wow…

‘It’s not about emails; it’s about public communication by a woman’

I am mad. I am mad because I am scared. And if you are a woman, you should be, too. Emailgate is a bitch hunt, but the target is not Hillary Clinton. It’s us.

You can read the entire unbelievable article HERE, at time.com

I’ll be interested to hear your comments, especially after you do a quick search on the author of the article…

There were 18 folks in line in our little town when I voted. The little old lady in front of me presented her LTC rather than her license, and it didn’t even turn a hair on the poll taker’s head… 🙂

Gotta love small town Texas.

The other interesting note is the lack of signs. I’ve probably seen a total of 10 signs if I count the local races… Only ONE Hillary sign in town, seven Trump signs. The other two were a local race. I find this quite refreshing compared to the last election I went through in NOVA… There were literally HUNDREDS of signs on the 4 mile route I took to work.

Of course this dearth of signs means I’m gonna actually have to BUY target backers next year… sigh…
