My daughters are still in Kalifornia, and I’m doing EVERYTHING I can to get them to move…

And Paramedic (pregnant) daughter went to her check up yesterday and there was a sign on the office door of the clinic (which is on the hospital complex)-

Attention patients with COMMERCIAL INSURANCE:

If you have commercial insurance then your visit today will be billed as an OUTPATIENT PROCEDURE of the hospital.

The cost of the visit will be applied to your deductible.

When she asked, she was told, “Oh, if you have Medi-Cal or Medicaid, it’s not charged to you…

In digging around I found this article in Forbes…

“Last week, the state of California claimed that its version of Obamacare’s health insurance exchange would actually reduce premiums. “These rates are way below the worst-case gloom-and-doom scenarios we have heard,” boasted Peter Lee, executive director of the California exchange. But the data that Lee released tells a different story: Obamacare, in fact, will increase individual-market premiums in California by as much as 146 percent.”

When she went on line and looked at the insurance costs vs. what she and her hubby have now, even the BASIC coverage will go up by almost 100% FOR EACH OF THEM!

Well, unlike Keads, I can’t afford new ones/get good buys like he does…

“I” have to wait for the scratch and dent sale…

Picked this one up to add to the training stable, but to be honest I’m NOT happy with it.

Takedown/cleaning is fairly simple, typical of a S&W with the breakdown lever, except you can’t (or shouldn’t) take it all the way out, nor should you go over 90degrees with it…

DSC00025I cleaned/lubed the gun up pretty well, and finally got the guide rod back in the right way.  And that little recoil rod will ONLY go in one way…  

At the range, it was not even close to being on, I was actually hitting 8-10 inches high and about the same left of the target at 15 yards.  Apparently this is NOT a new problem, and a number of others on the S&W forum have had the same issue (HERE).

I also had to screw the rear all the way down, and then move it damn near off the gun to the right to at least get the pistol to hit the 10 ring at 10 yards.  Didn’t even bother to try it at 15 yards again…

Also, about every other mag, it would NOT eject the first round out of the mag, for unknown reasons.  I’d cycle the action and it seemed to work okay for the rest of the mag. Called S&W on Tues, basically got told I should have cleaned and lubed it prior to shooting… Thanks a whole effing bunch for the help there folks… Hung up on them, I’ve got better things to do.

In summary-  Quality seems to be lacking, and it seems they are being slapped together with minimal attention to the ‘little’ things like actually aligning the sights.

I’d say put this on the do not buy list.

And I did pay my own $$ for the gun, so pound sand FCC… 

Maybe I’ll use it for malfunction drills this weekend, it seems to be good for that!

Lunch at the mall today, standing in line behind a couple of folks and overheard, “Yeah, I’m going low key these days…”

Says the dude dressed in canary yellow pants, green floral print Hawaiian shirt, Mohawk (half green, half red), and those ear piercings that elongate/put BIG holes in the earlobe.

His buddies’ response, “Yep you are.”

If ‘that’ is low key, what was he wearing before???

Never mind, I don’t EVEN want to know…

And they live, breathe and breed… Sigh…

If this one doesn’t scare you, I don’t know what to say…

According to a survey of George Washington University professors, some 30 percent generally endorse the eventual addition of President Barack Obama’s face to the Mount Rushmore National Memorial.

The survey, conducted and reported by The College Fix, is hampered by an extremely limited sample size. Nonetheless, the results are fascinating. Of the 10 history and political science profs queried, three suggested that Obama may eventually be added to the huge sculpture of four enormous presidential heads carved into the granite face of a mountain in the Black Hills of South Dakota.

Professor Paul Wahlbeck, who chairs the political science department at GW, apparently believes that Obama could become some sort of affirmative-action addition to the monument.

Back in the Day…

An interesting little video about a plane crash from WWII that was filmed, but the pilot NEVER saw the film until the grandson of the Dr. that filmed it showed up at the pilot’s house last year (60+ years later).  Quite a bit different from today isn’t it…

It’s about 14 minutes long, but worth the time.

Interestingly this was EARLY in the P-38 program, note the reference to the F-5 and the turbosupercharger problems.

Flying unarmed over Germany and orbiting to get pictures?  These guys clanked when they walked though…

 

Dolphins…

Dolphins ‘love’ to ride bow waves off ships, and can occasionally be seen cavorting in CRUDES and once in a great while Carrier bow waves, but this is the first time I’ve seen them ride a submarine’s bow wave (and the boat was doing at least 10 kts)… It’s toward the end of the clip past the 1 minute point.

We (Murphy and I) did it a bit differently, we went shooting…

Specifically, old WWII rifles and pistols…

Murphy’s SC 03A3 is missing because he was shooting it at the time.  Four old warriors that still work and will put rounds on paper or anything else you want!!!

And for those who don’t believe you can load 2 rounds in an 8 round clip- Here ya go…

And Murph was good enough to take me up for a ride in his plane.  We visited the bridge at Antietam Battlefield and Harper’s Ferry.

Here’s an overview of the battlefield. This is from on top the observation tower, looking back toward the main building and Dunker Church (the small white building center of the frame across the road).

Good friends, good shooting (pistols, the rifles sucked; actually “I” sucked the rifles shot fine), good food and a little time in the air.  It’ doesn’t get much better.  And I can’t think of a better way to remember those who did not make it back.  Salut!!!
