Who was Jefferson Davis???

Sam Jacobs over at Ammo.com has a new ‘personality’ up.

Two individuals come to mind at the mention of the Confederate States of America, General Robert E. Lee and Former-President of the Confederate States, Jefferson Davis. Both General Lee and Davis were men of principle and conviction as they stood up for what they believed; however, for a variety of historically complicated reasons, General Lee became a far bigger symbol of the Confederacy after its demise than Davis. Although Davis remains a sort of avatar for the end of states’ rights, some have come to view him as a Southern patriot.

I think it’s one of the more ‘balanced’ depictions of Davis, historically accurate, and free from the usual cliches. With the left trying to revise history and/or erase the parts they don’t like, and honest presentation is refreshing, at least to me…

Green energy gonna save us…

Or not… At least in Philly… $24 million in electric buses (apparently about $1 M each) less than five years old are now off the road!

The entire fleet of Proterra buses was removed from the roads by SEPTA, the city’s transit authority, in February 2020 due to both structural and logistical problems—the weight of the powerful battery was cracking the vehicles’ chassis, and the battery life was insufficient for the city’s bus routes. The city raised the issues with Proterra, which failed to adequately address the city’s concerns.

Apparently, this is one of those little oopsies like lack of mileage, no charging stations, etc. But this is supposed to be our future?

Guess it’s time to invest in some good cow ponies. At least they are fairly cheap to operate, but the lack of trunk space and no AC are gonna be a PITA (in addition to the PITA from riding any distance at my age)…

I really wonder if any of these cities that are going down the ‘green energy’ rathole are actually doing the due diligence they should be on these ‘products’. Wind, solar, electric cars?

How are they going to charge them? Look at what happened in Texas with the freeze… Wind was frozen, solar was snow covered, propane froze because the feeds were ‘supposedly’ green powered, which shut them down, etc. The ONLY clean energy is nuclear, but that’s bad… sigh

Where does this end? How many must die before some people come to their senses and stop trying to placate the left and say we need to actually have stable power, and vehicles that go more than 300 miles without having to be charged (hint-gas/diesel powered)?

And now that manufacturers are stepping away from building cars, people are wanting to not allow John Q. Public to be able to buy a pickup truck because they are ‘dangerous and carbon negative polluters)…

Has .gov sanctioned Big Tech to censor posts? Apparently the answer is yes…

White House press secretary Jen Psaki said Thursday the Biden administration is identifying “problematic” posts for Facebook to censor because they contain “misinformation” about COVID-19.

The ‘rationale’, if I parsed the word salad right, is that people are DYING! OMG!!! ELEVENTY!!! Of course they also trotted out a tame doctor who vouched for the requirements for everybody masking, and that those who have been vaccinated or have had the WuFlu just need to ‘suck it up’ and mask up because other people won’t get the vaccine because- MISINFORMATION!!! Ummm, kinda like the whole mess surrounding the origins of the WuFlu??? Sigh…

Interestingly, Fauci didn’t make an appearance this time around, and they seem to be using a different set of doctors and the new Surgeon General Vivek Murthy, is pushing that problematic social posts on COVID-19 are responsible for the issues and spikes.

The question is, how long before the censorship morphs to something else they don’t like? Like pointed out CRT is a scam? Or that Dems pushed for defunding the police? Or that there are actual cases of voter fraud that are now coming out?  Or…

All this is interesting in light of the article, HERE from The TImes UK about which posts were most popular on FB…

I need to clean out my garage stash more often…

84 boxes of ammo in various calibers, not counting about 2000 rounds of .22…

All now neatly (more or less) labeled so I can find them again…

And before you ask, no, none of it is for sale, and yes, I have guns in all the calibers of ammo that I have…

I truly miss the days when we were shooting 500-1000 rounds a week in practice…

Of course that was 40mumble years ago… When I could see! And was in a LOT better shape than I am today. But that might explain why I’m still more accurate at 50 yards than I am at 10… sigh

It’s a WHAT???

Yep, a ‘little’ goldfish… like the ones in your little aquarium, except somebody threw them in a lake and they grew up… AKA CARP!!!

They are aggressive, grow bigger than you think, and contribute to poor water quality when they uproot and disturb submerged vegetation while searching for insect larvae to eat. They also reduce water clarity and stir up bottom phosphorus-containing sediments, which contributes to algae blooms.

Are they that much of a problem???

Yes! HERE is an article from Popular Mechanics about dealing with invasive carp.

OBTW, they aren’t really that edible either. Oily and, as bottom feeders, tend to be ‘muddy’ flavored unless ‘cleaned out’ thoroughly in clear water.

FYI, Koi (the pretty fish in a lot of Japanese fish tanks/hotels/Hawaii are also carp!!!

Took a trip down to Fort Worth yesterday to meet up with an old friend and take in the Vintage Flying Museum (he volunteers there).

If you’re expecting the ‘normal’ museum experience, this one isn’t for you. It is a FLYING museum where the birds do actually fly! So they are usually working on at least some of them, as they take a bunch of maintenance! All done by volunteers (averaging about 5000 hours per airplane per year).

Without further ado- Pictures…

Like I said, WORKING hangar… The A-26A in the back is undergoing an Annual inspection, and it is the ONLY flyable 26A in the world. The other five are in museums.

C-47 getting a jug changed. It has to be up for next weekend, where it will be dropping jumpers.

This one is really interesting- The last aircraft Jackie Cochran owned and flew. It is being restored and will be flown around the country by the 99s (Women pilots group started in 1929) promoting women in aviation.

There will be a few more pictures tomorrow! And we went down to the Stockyards for lunch at Cooper’s BBQ, so a good day all around.
