The Eleventh Hour…

Of the eleventh day, of the eleventh month…

Originally Armistice Day after ‘The Great War,’ in 1918, that cost Britain, France, Germany and others most of an entire generation of men.

And this is what that would have sounded like…

Sadly, it wasn’t the ‘war to end all wars’. We didn’t learn and keep doing this stuff, which is why today is actually ‘celebrated’ as Veterans Day. HERE is a link to Military.com with some good embedded links for deeper understanding.

This gives as good a description of what a veteran is as anything I’ve seen. I first saw this from the CMC of VP-16 many years ago for Sailors, but it applies equally to veterans…

To understand a Military Veteran you must know:

We left home as teenagers or in our early twenties for an unknown adventure.

We loved our country enough to defend it and protect it with our own lives.

We said goodbye to friends and family and everything we knew.

We learned the basics and then we scattered in the wind to the far corners of the Earth.

We found new friends and new family.

We became brothers and sisters regardless of color, race or creed.

We had plenty of good times, and plenty of bad times.

We didn’t get enough sleep.

We smoked and/or drank too much.

We picked up both good and bad habits.

We worked hard and played harder.

We didn’t earn a great wage.

We experienced the happiness of mail call and the sadness of missing important events.

We didn’t know when, or even if, we were ever going to see home again.

We grew up fast, and yet somehow, we never grew up at all.

We fought for our freedom, as well as the freedom of others.

Some of us saw actual combat, and some of us didn’t.

Some of us saw the world, and some of us didn’t.

Some of us dealt with physical warfare, most of us dealt with psychological warfare.

We have seen and experienced and dealt with things that we can’t fully describe or explain, as not all of our sacrifices were physical.

We participated in time honored ceremonies and rituals with each other, strengthening our bonds and camaraderie.

We counted on each other to get our job done and sometimes to survive it at all.

We have dealt with victory and tragedy.

We have celebrated and mourned.

We lost a few along the way.

When our adventure was over, some of us went back home, some of us started somewhere new and some of us never came home at all.

We have told amazing and hilarious stories of our exploits and adventures.

We share an unspoken bond with each other, that most people don’t experience, and few will understand.

We speak highly of our own branch of service, and poke fun at the other branches.

We know however, that, if needed, we will be there for our brothers and sisters and stand together as one, in a heartbeat.

Being a Veteran is something that had to be earned, and it can never be taken away.

It has no monetary value, but at the same time it is a priceless gift.

People see a Veteran and they thank them for their service.

When we see each other, we give that little upwards head nod, or a slight smile, knowing that we have shared and experienced things that most people have not.

So, from myself to the rest of the veterans out there, I commend and thank you for all that you have done and sacrificed for your country.

Try to remember the good times and make peace with the bad times.

Share your stories.

But most importantly, stand tall and proud, for you have earned the right to be called a Veteran.

This…

Just pisses me off!  That bitch had to have had help to pull this off…

SEATTLE — For decades, the Navy’s leading supplier of high-strength steel for submarines provided subpar metal because one of the company’s longtime employees falsified lab results — putting sailors at greater risk in the event of collisions or other impacts, federal prosecutors said in court filings Monday.

The foundry’s director of metallurgy, Elaine Thomas, 66, of Auburn, Washington, was charged criminally with one count of major fraud against the United States. She falsified the results because she believed it was “a stupid requirement” that the test be conducted at such a cold temperature, the complaint said.

I’m just going to leave this here and not comment further because it’d devolve into a BUNCH of four letter words…

Hang her ass!

Sigh…

I wonder where we are going…

This is an excerpt from a rather long discussion about whether or not a veteran should recommend to kids today to go in the military…

I said that if someone told me they wanted to join the military I would do nothing to discourage them.  Though certainly not a good comparison, I would not discourage a young person from doing what they wanted to do, especially if they are of a parental household that could and should provide good advice tailored to their young person’s interests, aptitudes, and abilities — Tradesperson, Professionalperson, Militaryperson, whatever.

But am I an expert on the military a person is about to join and therefore could/should provide expert advice?  Hardly.  Not in reference to today’s military, and any retiree of 1993 who counsels based on his or her experience is padding the books.

I also said that if in a different context, someone simply asked for my advice regarding possibly joining the military as a choice I would not counsel in favor of it.  Thin line, I know, but it would be my responsibility to gauge depth of intent.  You want to do it?  Probably have good parental advice on life’s matters?  I’ll not speak against it.  But if you are merely asking advice on joining a current day organization, nay, a way of life, well, there are a lot of choices out there who may have fewer hidden objectionable factors.  Not that way in my time, but certainly that way as I see things now. In years past I could not have imagined that response to ever come from me in my lifetime. It went against all of my former observations, analysis, and standards of a most-of-my-adult lifetime of service. But it is not what I see today; it is discouraging, unacceptable, and painful.

Sadly, I agree with the person that said this…

Humor???

A Saudi Prince wants to buy a bull, so he goes to see a famous Russian bovine breeder.

The Russian tells him “I have many good animal. Here is Swedish bull, is born black colour, but colour turns white when grows”.

“Over there is American bull. Colour when born is red, but become dark brown when full grown”.

“And here, Turkish bull. They is born dark brown, but grow up to be light brown colour”.

The prince says “I rather like the Turkish bulls. Fine specimens indeed”. “Excellent choice, your majesty. But Turkish bull is special. They is bred for royalty, like you. But if you have royal blood, you must be bonding with bull calf when young, before they change colour. Or they will reject you” the Russian explains. “Well” the prince says “I’m looking for a strong, adult bull. I’m not particularly interested in buying a calf. I rather like this big, beige bull over here”.

The prince attempts to pet the large Turkish bull. It sniffs his hand, shakes its head in disgust, turns around and kicks the prince with its hind legs.

The prince goes flying across the room and lands in a pile of hay.

“Where did you get such a horrible beast?! Why did it kick me!?” He sputters. “I told you. He from Turkey”. the Russian explains “Is tan bull, can’t stand a noble”.

A man is driving along a highway and sees a rabbit jump out across the middle of the road.

He swerves to avoid hitting it, but unfortunately the little rabbit jumps right in front of the car. The driver, a sensitive man as well as an animal lover, pulls over and gets out to see what has become of the rabbit.

Much to his dismay, the rabbit is dead. The driver feels so awful that he begins to cry.

A beautiful blonde woman driving down the highway sees the man crying on the side of a road and pulls over. She steps out of the car and asks him what’s wrong. “I feel terrible” he explains. “I accidentally hit this rabbit and killed it”. The blonde says “Don’t worry”.

She runs to her car and pulls out a spray can. She walks over to the limp, dead rabbit, bends down, and sprays the contents onto the rabbit. The rabbit jumps up, waves its paw at the two of them and hops off down the road.

Ten feet away the rabbit stops, turns around and waves again, he hops down the road another 10 feet and waves, hops another ten feet, turns and waves, and repeats this again and again and again, until he hops out of sight.

The man is astonished. He runs over to the woman and demands “What is in that can? What did you spray on that rabbit?” The woman turns the can around so the man can read the label. It says: “Hair Spray – Restores life to dead hair, and adds permanent wave”.

And one to think about…

Wow…

I know Colorado ‘revised’ their WuFlu death toll earlier in the year, dropping it by something like 25%, but this is just astounding!

Italy’s Institute of Health now counts only those who died from COVID-19 has having died from COVID-19, reducing COVID-19 deaths in the hard-hit country from over 130,000 to fewer than 4,000.

That’s a 97% decrease.

“Of the … 130,468 deaths registered as official COVID deaths since the start of the pandemic, only 3,783 are directly attributable to the virus alone,” reports Summit News.

And Rand Paul and Fauci (spit), got into it again today in a hearing…

Sen. Rand Paul and Dr. Anthony Fauci had the latest in their series of tense exchanges Thursday, when the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases appeared before the Senate Health, Education, Labor & Pensions Committee.

Paul has been a fierce critic of Fauci, accusing him of falsely denying that the government has funded “gain-of-function” research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, where Paul believes COVID-19 likely originated. Fauci has denied this and continued to do so in no uncertain terms.

Full article, HERE.

Of note, Paul called him out directly, and said the NIH had not only admitted they funded gain of function research, but that the NIH had also ‘conveniently’ changed the definition of gain of function (what a surprise)…

There are some other articles, etc. floating around out there that really make me wonder about when/if we will ever know the truth about ANY of this mess…

TBT…

This one’s a bit different. Sam Jacobs over at Ammo.com wrote a nice piece on Carbine Williams…

America loves an outlaw. Some outlaws simply need to find their calling, and David Marshall Williams is such a man.

A convicted murderer of a sheriff’s deputy, no less, he turned his prison experience into a tale of personal redemption and revolutionized the field of semi-automatic firearms for over a century.

Two of his ‘little patents’ ended up allowing things like this to work!

Full article, HERE.

I have this little Winchester M-1 carbine sitting in the safe. It’s an unmolested 1942 version with a type 2 rear sight on it.

It’s getting into hunting season, and I, for one, am ready to get out in the woods and get some meat for the freezer, ESPECIALLY after looking at the prices in the stores this week.

And there is a run on turkeys??? Really???

Apparently because of the WuFlu, a lot of the turkey farms didn’t have enough help, and now the shortages are coming to the fore. Suppliers are telling the ‘little shops’ that they probably will not get any turkeys, because the suppliers have to fill the big box stores’ orders first.

Sigh…

Book promo!!!

First up is Larry Lambert and Jules Smith’s second book in the Red Mist series- Loki’s Fire

As always, click the cover for the Amazon link!

The blurb-

Five years have passed since the Norse Goddess Eir appeared in the red mist of the erupting Bárðarbunga volcano.  Very little has been heard from her since she vanished from the safe house in Herefordshire, England.

The effect of neutrino research in China still results in volcanic eruptions, halting the planned forced expansion of the People’s Republic of China out of fear of forces that they don’t fully understand. However they’re making moves to remedy that situation through the recruitments of assets that can get them what they want. The Long March has been delayed, but can never be stopped.

In the Manila underworld, where nobody is quite who they seem to be, Mike Vega is working as an arms merchant against Chinese interests and is removing meddlesome people in favor of those same interests.

French/Korean Sylvie Kim, working as an agent of the Chinese Fourth Bureau of Guojia Anquan Bu in The Philippines, has a mission too, and that mission is Mike Vega.

Ilya Sergeivich Zavrazhin an upwardly mobile operative of the Russian SVR is under orders to beat everyone to the punch.

It is a land of chameleons embracing each other where the laws of cause and effect are confusing and the outcome is far from predictable and none of the actors have any genuine belief in Norse deities returned to Earth or in Loki’s Fire.

But that’s about to change.

Next up is Alma Boykin’s latest Merchants series novel- White Gold of Empire

The blurb-

Without salt, man and beast cannot live. Without fire and tools, man cannot prosper.

Tarno Halson and the other salt makers of Halfeld Fluss must have wood for the fires to boil spring water into salt. Farmers, builders, smiths, tool-makers, bakers, and all the other trades demand wood as well, and tensions have risen among the trades. Tarno, a widower, also seeks a wife. One of the woodworkers offers—insists on Tarno taking—his daughter’s hand. The arrangement might bring peace between two of the trades.

Danger unifies Halfeld Fluss, yet also divides it. When Korvaal’s Son dies, and winter grows harder, obsession and anger simmer like boiling brine—and prove equally deadly.

Last but definitely not least, Peter Nealan’s newest book in the Maelstrom Rising series- Area Denial

The blurb-

There’s a Shadow War going on…

…And now the Triarii know it

Now it’s time for the next move

Hank and his section took a beating in West Texas, but they accomplished their mission and secured a strategic asset against a daring attempt to seize it. And in the process, they found out who’s really behind the war.

Now it’s time to strike back.

The government doesn’t want to admit Chinese involvement, despite what the Triarii and the Texas Rangers uncovered. So, once again, the Triarii must act on their own.

Destination: The South China Sea

Mission: Take the war to the People’s Republic of China

But will that be more easily said than done?

You’ll love this near-future military thriller because the tension ratchets up and never stops!

Get it now.

I have read all three and highly recommend all of them! Loki’s Fire has a great character in Mike Vega!  Alma, as always, blends research into an intriguing novel that blends fiction and fact. Peter understands the tyranny of distance involved in ANYTHING in WESTPAC (one of the few I’ve seen that gets it right)!

And I would like to thank those of you who have read and reviewed A Rifle A Pistol and A Good Horse! Yes, I know most of the reviews complained it was too short, and for that I apologize, but I DID say it was a novella! What frustrates me is the single one, two, and three star reviews without ANYTHING saying what they didn’t like…

For those who’ve picked up It Came from the Trailer Park, please give us starving writers honest reviews on that one too!

And now the pumpkins…

Go in the trash…

But all the candy was gone by 1930, friends dropped by, and fun was had.

Grandkids got all dressed up and went trick or treating in Cali…

And as soon as they got back, Jace ditched the costume and started going through his stash… LOL

And the kids will be on a sugar high for the next week…LOL

ROTFLMAO!!!

Now we know the truth…

I’ve been saying for ages that Keith Richards has been dead for ages, that they took his skin and stretched it over one of Disney’s finest animatronic robots and they dip it nightly in lanolin to keep it from cracking.
Now it’s Mick’s turn.
